At the Workplace Injury Commission, we've helped thousands of injured workers and employers to resolve their disputes and move forward with their lives. We're a robust Victorian Government statutory authority that's making an impact.

The Practice Group Manager is a key leadership position within WIC. In this position, you will lead and manage a team of Arbitration Officers, Hearing Support Officers and Case Support Officers, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, timely and accessible arbitration services. Your work will directly support the fair, informal and cost-effective resolution of workers' compensation disputes.

Harnessing your leadership skills, you will inspire confidence, engender enthusiasm in others and motivate the Arbitration team to work to a common purpose. You will champion best practice in arbitration, ensuring delivery of a consistent and high-quality arbitration service.

As a member of WIC's leadership team, you will work collaboratively with other leaders to identify and actively respond to employee, stakeholder and service challenges. This role actively supports and leads the delivery of WIC's organisational strategy, ensuring a workplace that is physically and psychologically safe, where employees are highly engaged, trained and supported to deliver service excellence.

Who we're looking for:

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Qualification or significant relevant experience in at least one of the following: Alternative Dispute Resolution, Law, Psychology, Occupational Health and Safety, Social Science.
  • Sound knowledge of the Accident Compensation Act 1985 (ACA), the Workplace Injury Rehabilitation and Compensation Act 2013 (WIRCA), and the workers compensation scheme in Victoria.
  • Ability to lead arbitration or tribunal hearings consistently in a fair, impartial, and informal manner which are procedurally fair and which establish and maintain the independence and authority of WIC.
  • Appropriate qualifications or experience to conduct arbitrations or tribunal hearings and lead a team of independent statutory decision makers, with appropriate knowledge and high level experience in statutory decision-making.
  • Experience in Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and interpreting legislation within a dispute resolution jurisdiction or framework.
  • Ability to provide written and oral statements reasons for determinations in a well-structured, concise and clear manner and in plain English, demonstrating a clear path of reasoning for the determination that is legally correct.
