Full job description
- Contribute to the creation, analysis, management and delivery of remotely sensed and spatial data products to support evidence-based environmental decision-making.
- Work in a motivated and professional team with a wide range of skill sets and backgrounds.
- Flexible work options.
Who we are
The Ecosystem and Protected Places section focuses on national modelling of vegetation and environmental threats, using a variety of tools including machine learning and remote sensing. The Remote Sensing Team provides advice and support in the use of remote sensing data across the department, including management of the satellite image repository. A major focus of the team is the development and utilisation of remote sensing products to support operational programs within the department. This includes vegetation change detection to assist in the protection of Australia's unique animals, plants, habitats, and places. This is an exciting opportunity, offering the chance to use and further develop your remote sensing skills on applications at a national scale.

The job
We are looking for highly motivated geospatial or remote sensing analysts to join our multi-disciplinary team. As part of the team, you will:
- Undertake imagery analysis and expert interpretation of remotely sensed data, including the assessment and validation of outputs from automated vegetation change detection processes, to produce scientifically defensible results.
- Support the management of remotely sensed and spatial data, including data ingestion, metadata management, quality assurance and validation, and the appropriate publishing and sharing of data to ensure accurate and reliable decision-making.
- Undertake moderately complex spatial analysis and production activities using tools such as ArcGIS Pro to deliver timely, high-quality outputs that meet client needs, in accordance with established processes, standards and workflows.
- Contribute to team performance by maintaining high standards of accuracy and quality and identifying opportunities to improve processes and outcomes.
- Develop and maintain positive working relationships with data providers and stakeholders through effective communication, collaboration and professional engagement.
What you’ll gain from the experience
As a part of Environment Information Australia’s aim to improve access to environment information, our work provides the opportunity to contribute to strengthening the availability of data to provide a robust evidence-base for decision-making. This is an exciting opportunity, offering the chance to use and further develop your remote sensing skills on applications at a national scale. The successful candidate will join a multi-disciplinary team with a positive, supportive culture and opportunities to build and broaden skills.
