Mater Research are looking for a Research Assistant to join the team! This is a two-year fixed-term role in a full-time capacity. It will be based at our South Brisbane campus.
The Research Assistant supports the delivery of the Mater Tiny Baby Initiative and the MICRO Premi Research Platform through assisting research activities such as data collection and management, biobanking support, research governance and project administration. Working under direction of the multidisciplinary research team, the position contributes to the successful implementation and evaluation of the Tiny Baby Unit model of care and associated research projects aimed at improving outcomes for extremely preterm infants and their families. The position applies established research methodologies, maintains high standards of research integrity and governance, and supports the generation of evidence to inform improvements in neonatal care, policy and health service delivery.

Salary range: $38.11 - $42.69 (MRI Admin L5) per hour plus superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900 + access to many staff benefits!
What you’ll be doing
This position of Research Assistant is a position within the Tiny Baby Initiative (TBI). The TBI is a strategic Mater program designed to improve survival and disability-free outcomes for infants born at less than 26 weeks' gestation and/or less than 750 grams at birth. The role provides research support to the MICRO Premi Research Platform and Researchers in key areas including:
- Prospective and retrospective cohort studies.
- Establishment of a neonatal biobank.
- Implementation and health services research.
- Consumer engagement and co-design activities.
- Development of future adaptive platform trials.
- Translation of evidence into neonatal clinical practice.
About you
Essential qualifications/experience:
- Degree qualification in health science, biomedical science, public health, nursing, psychology, science or a related discipline.
- Demonstrated ability to work within clinical or health research environments.
- Understanding of research governance, ethics and confidentiality requirements.
- Experience in data collection, database management and record keeping.
- High level computer literacy including Microsoft Office applications and data management systems.
- Demonstrated organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary research team.
- Demonstrated commitment to research quality, integrity and continuous improvement.
Desired qualifications/experience:
- Previous experience in clinical or health research, particularly in neonatal or associated field.
- Experience using REDCap or similar clinical research databases.
- Experience in research studies or clinical registries.
- Experience supporting ethics and governance submissions.
- Experience with biobanking, biological specimen handling or laboratory processes.
- Understanding of Good Clinical Practice (GCP).
- Experience contributing to scientific publications or grant applications.
