Resident Medical Officer - WBA Program
Workplace Based Assessment Program
Workplace-based assessment at Rockingham General Hospital
Rockingham General Hospital is pleased to have accreditation from the Australian Medical Council to provide a 12-month Workplace Based Assessment program with the next program commencing from 11 January 2027.
The Workplace-Based Assessment Program (WBA) is for international medical graduates (IMGs) undertaking the Australian Medical Council (AMC) Standard Pathway as an alternative to the AMC Clinical Examination.
Applicants with relevant experience, particularly WA Health employees who are currently working or have recently worked at Rockingham General Hospital or within the South Metropolitan Health Service, will be highly regarded.
The WBA program at Rockingham General Hospital is 12 months in duration and is open to IMGs who have passed the AMC Computer Adaptive Test Multiple Choice Question (CAT MCQ) and hold limited registration.
Through assessment in the everyday workplace, the WBA program assesses an IMG’s clinical skills and knowledge at the level expected of an Australian medical graduate at the end of postgraduate year 1 (PGY1) or internship level across the six different clinical areas of adult medicine, adult surgery, emergency medicine, obstetrics and gynaecology (women’s health), paediatrics (child health) and psychiatry (mental health). Regular feedback is provided to candidates allowing them to self- assess, self-correct and reflect, as needed. The WBA is an assessment program, not a bridging or a training course.
The content and the assessment standard of all accredited WBA programs are approved by the Australian Medical Council (AMC) and overseen by the AMC Board of Examiners to ensure consistency across programs and with AMC examinations. Throughout the WBA program in WA, IMGs are assessed by experienced senior clinicians across a range of clinical areas, skills and domains. Using multiple assessors broadens the scope of assessment and ensures a more robust assessment process.
Successful completion of the WBA program results in the candidate being awarded the AMC Certificate. Participation in the WBA program does not guarantee general registration; candidates must meet all the requirements of the Medical Board of Australia prior to being granted general registration. Rotations required for general registration are offered but not guaranteed, enrolment in the WBA program is contingent on working for a minimum of 12 months at Rockingham General Hospital.
Eligibility and Application Requirements
This position is open to IMG’s who are registered with the Medical Board of Australia. Applicants with current or prior experience working at Rockingham General Hospital, South Metropolitan Health Service within the last 24 months will be highly regarded.
The total number of candidates accepted into the WBA program each year will be determined by the Director of Clinical Services and the WBA Program Director. Selection to WBA, is not guaranteed even if an applicant meets all the eligibility criteria.
If successful to the WBA Program a candidate fee of $15,000 will apply, which can be paid in instalments. Further AMC fees are also applicable: Fees and charges.
For further job-related information please contact Sinead Togher, Medical Education Officer - WBA program on (08) 9599 4054 or email RGH.MedicalEducation@health.wa.gov.au
