What you'll be doing
The primary purpose of this Research Assistant role is to contribute to the delivery of high‐quality research outcomes under the direction of senior researchers. The Research Assistant supports laboratory, translational and/or data‐driven research through the generation of robust data, application of appropriate methodologies, and contribution to research
outputs. The role provides technical expertise in laboratory methodologies, experimental design and execution, and coordinates laboratory workflows under the direction of senior researchers.
SCHN undertakes a broad program of laboratory and translational research to improve health outcomes for children and young people. This role contributes by driving innovative experimental approaches, supporting development of novel therapies, and ensuring high standards of scientific rigour, safety, and compliance.
The primary purpose of this role is to contribute actively to the provision of high‐quality research activities at the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network (SCHN).

- Relevant tertiary qualification in medical science or related discipline, or equivalent experience in medical research environment. Applicants with relevant honour's degrees are encouraged to apply.
- Demonstrated ability to contribute to research activities, including practical experience in laboratory techniques (eg. Molecular and cell‐based assays, cell culture, multi‐parameter flow cytometry, advanced microscopy).
- Ability to apply theoretical knowledge in research settings.
- Strong organisational and record‐keeping skills.
- Effective time management and prioritisation.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills search.
- Computer literacy, database management and excellent analytical skills.
- Understanding of research ethics and governance and commitment to quality, biosafety and patient safety in research.
