About Pathology Clinical Trials Department

Clinical Trials Pathology provides a dedicated pathology service supporting clinical trials and research across Austin Health and external partners. The service coordinates pathology requirements from initial protocol review and quotation through to agreements, testing and ongoing trial delivery, providing a central point of contact between researchers and laboratory services.

About the role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Medical Scientist to join our Clinical Trials Pathology team at Austin Health in full time 12 month fixed term position. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the coordination and delivery of clinical trials and research projects, combining pathology expertise with strong administrative and organisational skills. You will review and implement clinical trial protocols, coordinate laboratory requirements and support compliance throughout the trial lifecycle. This is a varied role combining scientific knowledge with administrative, financial and operational responsibilities, while working closely with researchers, trial coordinators, laboratory teams and other stakeholders.

A regular day will see you:

• Review and implement clinical trial protocols and procedures, coordinating laboratory setup and testing requirements.
• Coordinate pathology requirements for clinical trials and research projects from setup through to delivery.
• Combine scientific expertise with strong administration, including trial documentation, data, samples and laboratory coordination.
• Supply accurate financial and data management, including costings, reporting and trial-related financial administration.
• Support researchers, trial coordinators and laboratory teams, responding to enquiries, resolving operational issues and maintaining effective communication throughout trial activities.

About you

You are a detail-oriented and proactive scientist with experience in clinical trials or research within a pathology or laboratory environment. You combine strong scientific knowledge with excellent administrative, organisational and time management skills, and are confident managing trial documentation, data and financial information with a high level of accuracy. You thrive in dynamic, fast-paced settings, communicate effectively and work well both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team. Your commitment to scientific excellence, regulatory compliance and continuous professional development drives you to deliver high-quality outcomes. To be successful in this role, you'll bring with you:

• Relevant degree qualification in science or equivalent.
• Demonstrated experience in a clinical trials or research environment, ideally within pathology or laboratory services.
• Strong clinical trials administration skills, including coordinating protocols, documentation, data and stakeholder requirements.
• Knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and relevant clinical trial regulatory and governance requirements.
• Experience preparing costings, quotations and financial documentation, with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
