We're excited to welcome a Laboratory Scientist to the Sunshine Coast Health Institute (SCHI).
The purpose of this role is to support laboratory management for technical and research operations of the Sunshine Coast University Hospital's (SCUH) Sunshine Coast Health Institute (SCHI) Physical Containment Level 2 (PC2) research laboratories and Human Body Visualisation teaching rooms.
The SCHI Laboratory Scientist's role is primarily to support and maintain the safe and efficient operations of SCHI research laboratories, associated equipment and contribute to the success of laboratory-based research activities. The role will support and actively contribute to a culture of safety, aid in risk management processes, and engage in supporting the development and evaluation of a range of laboratory-focused technical procedural processes, services, protocols, and associated training. This role acts under the general direction, guidance and instruction provided by the SCHI Laboratory Manager.

Key Responsibilities include:
Lead and coordinate the operation, optimisation and continuous improvement of specialist research laboratory equipment and associated services, acting as the primary technical resource in the absence of the Laboratory Manager.
Coordinate, deliver and evaluate laboratory inductions, equipment training programs and competency assessments to ensure ongoing user compliance and capability.
Provide high-level technical expertise and independent troubleshooting for complex equipment, laboratory processes and research protocols.
Oversee laboratory systems relating to hazardous substances, biological materials and storage compliance, ensuring legislative and best-practice requirements are maintained.
Remuneration value up to $109, 525 p.a., comprising salary rates: $55.33 - $60.51 p.h., employer contribution to superannuation (12.75%) and annual leave loading (17.5%) (PO3) ( part time position available, 60.8 hrs p.f.).
