About The Role
We are seeking a motivated Junior Data Scientist to join our growing technology and AI team. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to work with large-scale, multimodal healthcare datasets and contribute to machine learning solutions that have a direct impact on patient outcomes and epilepsy research. If you're passionate about data science, machine learning, and applying emerging technologies to real-world healthcare challenges, we'd love to hear from you. This is an opportunity to shape the future of epilepsy care through data science and AI.

Working alongside the AEP Technology & AI Lead and multidisciplinary research teams, you will assist in developing, testing, and deploying machine learning models that support clinical decision-making and research outcomes.
You will work with diverse datasets including:

  • Medical imaging data
  • Clinical records
  • Cognitive assessment data
  • Genetic information
  • Research and participant datasets

This is an excellent opportunity for an early-career data scientist looking to build experience across the complete machine learning lifecycle within a highly collaborative healthcare environment.


What You'll Do

  • Collaborate with researchers, clinicians, and stream leads to identify machine learning opportunities.
  • Prepare, clean, transform, and analyse complex datasets.
  • Develop and evaluate machine learning models and analytical pipelines.
  • Design and execute experiments to validate data science hypotheses.
  • Support deployment and integration of data science solutions into the AEP platform.
  • Monitor, maintain, and improve production machine learning models.
  • Establish feedback mechanisms to measure model performance and usage.
  • Contribute to documentation, quality processes, and regulatory readiness activities.
  • Promote data science best practices across the organisation.

About You

You are a curious and driven data scientist who enjoys solving complex problems and working in multidisciplinary teams.

Essential

  • Tertiary qualification in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience applying machine learning and statistical methods to real-world problems.
  • Strong Python programming skills.
  • Understanding of modern machine learning techniques and workflows.
  • Experience working with complex datasets.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based computing environments.
  • Experience using Git or similar version control systems.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Desirable

  • Experience in healthcare, biomedical research, or medical technology.
  • Knowledge of epilepsy or neuroscience research.
  • Experience with SQL and/or R.
  • Understanding of Agile development methodologies.
  • Exposure to regulated environments, quality management systems, or Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) frameworks.
