Your Opportunity
Australian Unity is proud to partner with Beyond Blue to deliver a 24/7 nationwide counselling and support service for Australians experiencing mental health challenges.
Working remotely from home, you will provide phone and webchat support to community members seeking help for emotional distress, anxiety, depression, and other mental health concerns. This is an opportunity to make a genuine difference by supporting people during some of their most vulnerable moments.
We are specifically seeking compassionate and resilient individuals who are passionate about mental health and community support, and who are comfortable working afternoon shifts as part of a 24/7 service.
Available Permanent Part-Time Opportunities
We currently have Permanent Part-Time contracts available (30 hours per week) for afternoon shifts. Regular weekend availability is required. The working hours falling between 2:00pm and 12:30am (AEST/AEDT). This would be your set shift for a minimum of 12 months.
Available Work-from-Home Shift Options
Option 1 – Afternoon Shift
Saturday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
7.5-hour shifts (30 hours per week)
Start times between 2:00pm–4:00pm Finish times between 10:00pm–12:00am
Option 2 – Afternoon Shift
Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
7.5-hour shifts (30 hours per week)
Start times between 2:00pm–4:00pm Finish times between 10:00pm–12:00am
Option 3 – Afternoon Shift
Saturday, Monday, Tuesday, Friday
7.5-hour shifts (30 hours per week)
Start times between 2:30pm–4:30pm Finish times between 10:30pm–12:30am
Option 4 – Afternoon Shift
Sunday, Monday, Thursday, Friday
7.5-hour shifts (30 hours per week)
Start times between 2:30pm–4:30pm Finish times between 10:30pm–12:30am
About You
You are empathetic, calm, patient, flexible, resilient and genuinely motivated to support people in your community. As a Mental Health Counsellor, you will provide frontline support to individuals experiencing emotional distress, anxiety, depression, and challenging life circumstances.
You will also bring:
- Strong communication and active listening skills
- Excellent micro counselling skills
- Confidence using technology and managing multiple systems simultaneously
- Excellent time management and administration skills
- Resilience and the ability to support high volumes of calls and webchats discussing complex mental health concerns
- A collaborative approach and commitment to ongoing learning and professional development
- M inimum 2-years work experience post relevant qualification or minimum 10 years mental health registered nursing experience
- Registered or eligible to register with ONE of the following professional bodies:
- AHPRA (as a mental health Registered Nurse, Provisional Psychologist with external supervision support or full registration as a psychologist)
- PACFA - Minimum Provisional (working towards full registration)
- ACA – Minimum level 2
- AASW / AMHSW – Full Membership
Training & Support:
You will be supported through a comprehensive induction and training program designed to build your confidence and capability during your first 12 months as a BBSS Counsellor. The program focuses on developing practical mental health support skills while ensuring ongoing professional support and wellbeing.
Work From Home Requirements :
This is a fully remote opportunity, and applicants can be based anywhere in Australia. Technology equipment will be provided; however, you will need:
- A private, quiet workspace suitable for confidential conversations
- A reliable and stable internet connection
- Strong computer and IT skills, including the ability to navigate multiple systems while supporting callers in real time
