The Role
Consumer Peer Workers are integral members of the multidisciplinary team who possess expertise through a lived experience of mental health challenges. Through sharing wisdom from their own experiences, Consumer Peer Workers inspire hope and provide support to clients accessing clinical community mental health services.
As an integral and highly valued member of the multi-disciplinary team, the Senior Consumer Peer Worker role has 2 components.
- Responsibility for the guidance of consumer peer workers and integrating strong processes that support consumer perspective recovery by outlining their specific functions, importance and benefits across the multidiscipline teams. Within this component the Senior Consumer Peer Worker’s position will assist in the recruitment process of Consumer Peer Workers, orientation, and the development of resources to support their practice in the community setting.
- Provide one on one consumer peer work within a client team for 50% of their time, providing input to case managers relating to areas of consumer experience based on your own lived experience. The Consumer Senior Peer Worker will be required to be self-motivated and directed. They will demonstrate a sound ability to engage with a range of people, and offer support and information to the peer worker team who are drawing on their own experience in supporting the consumers they work with.
Support and supervision of the Senior Consumer Peer Workers is provided by the Peer Support Coordinator as well as through the Consumer Peer Support (Community of Practice) Supervision.
