Primary objective
Child and Adolescent Mental Health team (CAMHT) Intake Officer is responsible for the provision of specialist triage, assessments and
the coordination of planned interventions for children and adolescents who are experiencing mental health problems. The CAMHT Intake
Officer is the first point of contact when referrals are received and is responsible for providing educational and consultancy services to
carers, other service providers and professionals in the context of a multidisciplinary team.

Key duties and responsibilities
1. Conduct intake mental health assessments for children and adolescents and liaison with carers, service providers and other

professionals.
2. Manage a complex and mixed case load of children and young people in which assessment, clinical and case management to accepted

clients is provided.
3. Maintain regular attendance at clinical meetings and contribute to the development of individual care plans. Responsible for the

implementation of clinical guidelines and standards related to their professional services within the area of child and youth.
4. Maintain accurate and up to date clinical and service delivery records, in accord with established information systems and protocols,

including completing case reviews, risk assessment, and outcomes measurers where appropriate.
5. Participate in supervision, professional development and performance appraisal activities as required.
6. Follow defined service quality standards, work health and safety policies and procedures relating to the work being undertaken in

order to ensure high quality, safe services and workplaces.
7. Foster a positive workplace culture through role modelling behaviour.

Selection criteria
Essential
1. Tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Occupational Therapy, or Social Work with full registration to practice with the Australian Health

Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) or eligibility for membership with the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW).
2. Demonstrated, recent clinical experience in the mental health assessment, treatment and rehabilitation methods appropriate to

children and adolescents.
3. Demonstrated knowledge of current issues, standards and trends in the delivery of mental health services to the target population.
4. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clients, carers and other professionals from diverse cultural backgrounds and

to prepare written reports of a high standard, and in the use of electronic information systems for the maintenance of clinical and
service delivery records.

5. Demonstrated capacity to work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team, engaging in ongoing professional development and
contribution to professional peer consultation.

6. Proficiency in and commitment to the use of electronic information systems for the maintenance of clinical service delivery record.

Desirable
1. Post graduate qualifications beyond entry to practice in speciality.
