Full job description

POSITION PURPOSE

The Lab hosts regular exhibition openings, workshops, and artist talks, and produces a range of public programs and events that require the assistance of a team of hardworking and dedicated volunteers. Though gallery invigilation is their primary duty, the people who keep our doors open are the key to our organisation. As the first point of contact for visitors, we aim to develop our team of volunteers into reliable and professional members of the art community.

Volunteers will work with the Manager/Director to contribute to the day-to-day functioning of the space. The Lab is an exciting place, and volunteer staff are central to the operation and growth of the space.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Exhibitions

  • work with artists and gallery staff to assist exhibition installation and bump-out
  • start-of day and end-of day procedures for digital works
  • invigilating the exhibition
  • track gallery attendance
  • provide information to visitors
  • coordinate sales

Presentations and Workshops

  • assisting event coordinators
  • set-up and pack-down of event materials
  • cleaning the space
  • documenting events

Residencies

  • coordinating airport transport for artists
  • local point-of-contact

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Demonstrable and informed passion in contemporary digital media art, technology, and visual culture
  • Flexibility with working hours
  • Ability to work well within a small team

Desirable

  • Technical skills and experience installing exhibitions
  • Video, image, and print editing competency

LOCATION

Tactical Space Lab, 4 Lackey St, St Peters, NSW, 2044.
(5 minutes walk from St Peters station, 10 minutes bus from Newtown station)


HOURS

Approximately 5-10 hours per week or as available.
