What you'll be doing
NSLHD is responsible for hosting the NSW Voluntary Assisted Dying Support Service (NVSS), comprising four operational arms which provide high-quality Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) services to eligible patients across NSW and within NSLHD. Access Service (VAD-AS): a small pool of Visiting Medical Officers (VMOs) who are authorised VAD practitioners established to fill gaps in availability of local VAD practitioners across NSW.

  • Care Navigator Service (VAD-CNS): a specialized call-centre manned by senior nurses and allied health professionals who provide information and support to patients, families, clinicians, and other community members about VAD.
  • Pharmacy Service (VAD-PS): responsible for procuring and distributing the VAD substance, and providing expert pharmaceutical advise, education and support.
  • NSLHD VAD Local Support Team: responsible for provision of direct clinical assessment and care to patients and families seeking access to VAD services.

The Director is responsible for operational performance, strategic management and planning, escalations and issues management related to the four service arms, and for maintaining effective internal/external stakeholder relationships to meet service goals and objectives.

People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline and/or demonstrated experience working in a Health management position with extensive knowledge of the challenges in the NSW public health system
  • Reasonable understanding of the end-of-life care landscape in NSW; NSW Health policies and procedures affecting VAD services; and the NSW Voluntary Assisted Dying Act 2022.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and develop a complex health service involving sensitive clinical, strategic, or operational issues with high-level critical thinking and sound decision making.
