Empowering health and wellbeing in the heart of the Western Desert
Pintupi Homelands Health Service (PHHS) is seeking a motivated and community-focused Health Promotion Officer to join our dedicated team in Kintore, Northern Territory. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to meaningful health outcomes for Aboriginal people in a remote community setting through culturally safe, evidence-based health promotion programs.
About the role:
The Health Promotion Officer (HPO) is responsible for leading the Health Promotion Portfolio, improving the health of people in the Kintore community through a coordinated population health approach.
Working closely with the multidisciplinary primary health care team, the HPO supports individuals, families, and young people (15–24 years) to build resilience and wellbeing using a strengths-based, community-driven model.
Your portfolio will include:
  • Health Promotion Program
  • Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB) Program
  • Sexual Health (BBV/STI) Program
  • Nutrition and School Nutrition Programs
These initiatives aim to promote healthier lifestyles, increase access to health services, and reduce the risk of chronic diseases in the community.
What you will do:
  • Plan, deliver and evaluate culturally safe and community-led health promotion activities.
  • Develop and implement health education programs targeting priority groups.
  • Engage young people and families in preventative health initiatives.
  • Strengthen community partnerships and collaborate with stakeholders to promote good nutrition, exercise, and overall wellbeing.
  • Contribute to PHHS’s quality improvement and governance programs.
  • Support the transfer of health knowledge and skills to Aboriginal Health Workers and community members.
About you:
  • To succeed in this role, you will have:
  • Tertiary qualifications in health promotion, public health, education, community development, or an allied health discipline.
  • Experience in health education and/or health promotion theory, practice, and evaluation.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to build partnerships across community, government, and non-government organisations.
  • Ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural environment as part of a multidisciplinary health team.
  • Excellent organisational and teamwork skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal health, principles of Primary Health Care, and relevant legislation.
  • IT proficiency, preferably in Microsoft Office.
  • Manual Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel by 4WD.
  • Adaptability and flexibility to work under Aboriginal management and community control.
  • Commitment to developing Pintupi language skills and transferring health skills to Aboriginal Health Workers and clients.
  • Previous experience in remote Aboriginal health care delivery will be highly regarded.
