Full job description
Position Description:
The Enrolled Nurse (EN) provides safe, evidence-based and person-centred nursing care to NDIS participants in the community, consistent with each participant's care plan, organizational policies, and the professional standards expected of an Enrolled Nurse. The EN practices within their scope of practice as an AHPRA-registered Enrolled Nurse, contributing to quality clinical outcomes, participant dignity, choice and independence.
Key Accountabilities / Core Duties:
1) Clinical Care Delivery (Community Setting)
- Deliver nursing care to participants in accordance with individual support plans, nursing care plans, and clinical risk assessments
- Undertake and document basic and focused health assessments (e.g., vital signs, pain, skin integrity, wound monitoring, mobility, nutrition/hydration risks) and escalate concerns promptly to the Service Manager
- Provide care that supports participant independence, functional capacity, and wellbeing
2) Medication Support and Clinical Procedures (as authorised)
- Administer medications and support medication management in line with organizational medication policies, relevant legislation, and delegated authority
- Observe for medication effects/adverse reactions and report/escalate promptly
- Perform EN-level clinical procedures/assistance as required (for example: wound care, basic continence care, infection monitoring, chronic disease monitoring) consistent with competency and policy
3) Monitoring, Reporting, Escalation and Clinical Communication
- Monitor participant condition and progress and communicate changes using structured clinical communication (e.g., ISBAR), including timely escalation of deterioration
- Participate in clinical handovers, case discussions, and team meetings with BSPs and other health care professionals
- Liaise with families/guardians, support workers, and allied health professionals to promote consistent care delivery
4) Documentation and Compliance
- Maintain accurate, timely and factual records (clinical notes, medication documentation, incident reports, progress notes) in line with privacy/confidentiality requirements and organizational standards
- Contribute to incident management, near-miss reporting, and continuous improvement activities
5) Safety, Infection Prevention and Risk Management
- Apply infection prevention and control measures (standard and transmission-based precautions as required)
- Follow work health and safety procedures, including manual handling, hazard reporting, and safe community work practices
- Support clinical risk mitigation for participants (e.g., falls risk, choking/dysphagia supports as trained, pressure injury prevention)
6) Professional Practice (AHPRA/NMBA-aligned expectations)
- Maintain professional boundaries, ethical conduct, and culturally safe practice
- Work within the EN scope and only undertake tasks for which competency has been achieved
- Participate in performance review, supervision, reflective practice, and ongoing learning
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Diploma of Nursing (Enrolled Nurse)
- Current AHPRA registration
- Current First Aid and CPR certificate
- NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Working with Children Check
- Manual handling and medication administration competency (desirable)
