Job Overview

Join our After School Care Team!

Are you passionate about creating fun, enriching experiences for children? Do you love working in a dynamic, supportive team and want to make a difference in your local community? We’re looking for upbeat, reliable, and child-centred educators to join our After School Care (ASC) team!

About the Role

At North Sydney Community Centre’s After School Care Leisure program, every afternoon is a chance to spark joy, creativity and connection for local school children aged 5–12. We are seeking a dedicated individual to join our team in this entry-level role, offering a solid foundation for those looking to build a career in this industry. This position provides valuable hands-on experience and exposure to various aspects of the program.

For candidates who demonstrate initiative, a commitment to continuous learning, and a passion for child care, there are clear pathways for growth within the team. With additional qualifications and experience, opportunities for advancement into more senior roles will be available, supporting your professional development and career aspirations. Join us for the chance to be a trusted role model and help shape young minds through engaging play, meaningful relationships, and a safe, supportive environment.

You’ll work alongside a passionate, experienced team to deliver a program full of variety — from art and cooking to sports and imaginative games — and build a space where children feel safe, seen and inspired.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program & Activities: Participate in delivering a fun, stimulating program of activities (structured and free play). Lead at least two engaging activities per week.
  • Child Safety & Supervision: Participate in collecting children daily from North Sydney Demonstration School.
  • Snack Time: Prepare healthy afternoon tea options and involve kids where possible!
  • Teamwork: Support the set-up and pack-down of shared spaces; collaborate with other educators and team leaders to contribute ideas to improve our offering.
  • Engagement & Communication: Build strong relationships with children, families, and fellow staff; bring a warm and positive attitude to every shift.
  • Evaluation & Reporting: Record daily reflections as required, contribute to continuous improvement, and report any incidents appropriately.
  • Health & Safety: Follow WHS procedures, participate in evacuation drills, and maintain a clean, safe space for all.
What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking passionate individuals who:

  • Genuinely enjoy spending time with children and are committed to their wellbeing and development.
  • Bring energy, creativity, and a sense of fun to every shift.
  • Are reliable team players with strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Take pride in maintaining a safe, clean and welcoming environment.
  • Have a proactive, can-do attitude and are open to feedback and learning.
Requirements

North Sydney Community Centre follows a structured pre-employment screening process. This position requires a Working with Children Check (WWCC), Police Check, and two referees. Successful applicants will be reimbursed the cost of obtaining the police check upon commencement of employment.

Employment is conditional on successful completion of these checks.

Desirable skills/experience
  • Previous experience in an OOSH, education or childcare setting
  • Up-to-date First Aid Certificate
  • Awareness of the National Quality Framework (NQF)
  • NSW Child Safety Standards Training
We will provide you with
  • Introductory NSW Child Safety Standards Training (with certification)
  • Centre Safety Training at Induction
  • Quarterly Team Safety Training
  • A buddy system with a senior member of the team throughout probationary period
Why Join Us?
  • Be part of a much-loved community centre with a strong local presence and purpose.
  • Work with a supportive, inclusive and experienced team that values fun, learning and professional growth.
  • Make a meaningful impact on children’s lives — every day.
  • Flexible shifts around school terms (no holiday shifts or late evenings).
  • Opportunities to contribute ideas and co-create a dynamic program.

If you’re enthusiastic, dependable and ready to bring your best to our team, we’d love to hear from you!
