As a Communications Operator, you will:

Answer emergency Triple Zero (000) calls - Be the first voice people hear in a crisis.
Manage police radio dispatch duties - Coordinate resources for rapid response.
Prioritise officer and public safety - Every decision matters.
Assess and manage risk factors - Make critical judgments under pressure.
Provide reassurance to distressed callers - Help them feel safe and supported.
Operate advanced communication systems - Enable life-saving actions.
Operate in a 24/7, year-round shift environment. This role requires 24-hour rotational shift work, including afternoons, nights, weekends and public holidays, with penalty rates applied on top of your base wage - adaptability and resilience are essential.

You will need to bring a unique combination of skills and qualities which will help you thrive, these include:

Strong questioning and listening skills to make sound decisions under pressure.
Confidence to think on your feet and make critical decisions.
Are tech savvy enough to use multiple software systems whilst under pressure
Fast and accurate typing skills.
Capacity to talk, type, listen and think simultaneously.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Resilience, professionalism and patience in high-pressure situations.
Empathy and a genuine desire to assist those in need.

Preferred candidates will be required to undergo pre-employment checks, including but not limited to psychometric and hearing assessments.

About the Communications Group

The Queensland Police Service Communications Group operates as a state-wide, virtualised network, ensuring seamless and efficient emergency response across Queensland. With Police Communications Centres including Brisbane, Beenleigh, Maroochydore, Townsville, Cairns and Toowoomba, the Communications Group provides critical call-taking and dispatch services to support the community in frontline police operations.

This virtualised operating system enables collaboration and resource sharing across all PCCs, ensuring that no matter where a call originates, it is handled with the same level of professionalism and urgency.
