- Build valuable experience towards selection for accredited OMFS training
- Join an ambitious, patient-focused OMFS unit delivering complex surgical care
- Gain exposure across the full spectrum of OMFS, including trauma, oncology, TMJ and reconstruction
- Temporary part-time opportunity (68.8 hours per fortnight) until 31 January 2027
About the Role
The 2026 Oral Maxillofacial Surgery Unaccredited Registrar position offers an excellent opportunity to gain broad clinical and surgical experience within a busy Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) service. Working under the supervision of consultant surgeons, the registrar will provide effective day-to-day clinical management of both ambulatory and admitted patients while developing the experience, knowledge and skills required to meet the core competencies for future surgical training.
This role is designed to support progression towards an accredited OMFS training position with the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons (RACDS). The successful applicant will work closely with the accredited OMFS registrar, consultants and multidisciplinary surgical and dental teams, gaining valuable exposure to complex oral and maxillofacial conditions across hospital and community settings.
The position includes participation in outpatient clinics, inpatient ward management, operating theatre sessions and oral surgery procedures performed in community oral health centres. Registrars will assist with a range of surgical procedures and perform dentoalveolar surgery under local anaesthesia, while contributing to comprehensive, person-centred dental care with a particular focus on medically complex patients.
The role also involves participation in the 1:4 after-hours, on-call and recall roster for the OMFS unit, providing exposure to acute presentations and emergency surgical care.
This position offers a strong foundation for doctors and dental practitioners seeking a future career in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, with consultant supervision, ongoing professional development opportunities and detailed referee reporting to support applications for accredited RACDS training posts.
Key Responsibilities

Provide timely assessment and management of urgent, elective and outpatient OMFS patients, including admissions, ward care, theatre participation and oral surgery procedures within Oral Health Services
-
Coordinate patient investigations, treatment plans, medications, discharge planning and clinical documentation to ensure safe, accurate and person-centred care
-
Communicate effectively with consultants, multidisciplinary teams, patients and families, ensuring informed consent, clear clinical handover and escalation of complex or deteriorating cases as required
-
Contributing to education, research, continuous improvement and professional development activities within the OMFS and Oral Health Services teams
What we’re looking for
-
Current registration with AHPRA as both a Medical Practitioner and Dental Practitioner.
-
Demonstrated postgraduate experience in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery or a comparable surgical environment, with sound clinical knowledge and practical skills.
-
Ability to work effectively under pressure, demonstrating strong clinical judgement, adaptability, flexibility and professional communication with patients and multidisciplinary teams.
