Job Description

About the Role
The Friends’ School is seeking enthusiastic and proactive Teaching Assistants to support the delivery of Health and Physical Education, Outdoor Education, and Sports programs for students in Years 7–12.

This role will work closely with classroom teachers and faculty staff to provide high-quality learning support across a range of settings, from classrooms and sports fields to outdoor education environments.

This is an ongoing Part Time position and days of work are flexible, depending on the needs of the faculty.


Key Focus Areas

  • Promote and uphold the School’s commitment to child safety, ensuring any safeguarding concerns are reported through the appropriate channels.

  • Support teachers in the planning and delivery of HPE, Outdoor Education, and Co-curricular Sports programs.

  • Assist with the preparation and organisation of resources and equipment for each class or activity, ensuring safety and readiness.

  • Provide supervision and support for students during classroom lessons, outdoor activities, excursions, and sporting events.

  • Undertake safe transport of students and staff to and from off-site activities as required.

  • Contribute to safety planning, including routine equipment checks and the development of Risk Assessments.

  • Support teachers in implementing classroom behaviour and safety agreements and providing first aid when necessary.

  • Assist in administrative and operational tasks as requested by teachers, and occasionally mentor new assistants or trainees.

Essential Qualifications & Requirements

  • Commitment to The Friends’ School’s Purpose & Concerns and to creating a positive, inclusive learning environment.

  • An understanding of the 10 National Child Safe Standards and the ability to foster a culture of safety and respect for young people.

  • Strong organisational and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively within a team.

  • Demonstrated capacity to support teachers in practical, classroom, and outdoor learning environments.

  • Current First Aid qualification (or willingness to obtain).

  • Current manual driver’s licence, with the ability and confidence to drive school vehicles and transport students safely.

  • Demonstrated understanding of safety protocols and risk management in physical education and outdoor education contexts.

  • Current Working with Vulnerable People (Employment) registration and a National Police Check (issued within the past six months).
