Newcastle's John Hunter Hospital is a specialised tertiary referral hospital, teaching hospital and community hospital, providing complex medical, surgical, major trauma for numerous specialties.
We are the busiest ED in the state and a major trauma centre for Northern NSW. John Hunter Hospital is a great place to develop your career as we are delivering services to people of all ages, from birth to childhood and adulthood.
Other regional hospitals part of the HNELHD Network are Belmont, Maitland, Tamworth and Manning Hospital. Other peripheral sites on rotation are Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour
What you'll be doing
What you'll be doing
The Medical Education Trainee plays a key role in supporting the Director of Prevocational Education & Training (DPET) and the Senior Resident Medical Officer (SRMO) Network Director in the development, coordination, and delivery of education, mentoring, and wellbeing initiatives for junior medical officers (interns, residents, and SRMOs) and international medical graduates at John Hunter Hospital.
This position contributes to the design and facilitation of structured teaching programs, offers pastoral and professional support to JMOs, and advocates for a positive and supportive training environment. The role also provides opportunities for the Education Trainee to develop their own skills in medical education and leadership, with approximately 0.5 FTE allocated to clinical duties (non-specified) and 0.5 FTE to education responsibilities. This is a 12 month position.
- Qualifications and experience commensurate with the Essential Requirements of the role.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary clinical team - diligence, punctuality, organisation, record keeping, time management, problem solving skills, teamwork.
- Excellent communication (verbal and written) with medical and non-medical colleagues especially junior medical officers.
- Excellent theoretical knowledge and clinical judgement with passion and enthusiasm for teaching junior medical officers.
- Strong desire to develop leadership qualities.
- Demonstrated evidence of involvement in teaching.
- Commitment to continuous quality improvement.
- Demonstrated experience working with people from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
