About the Team

The Faculty of Science, Medicine and Health (SMAH) comprises of the Schools of Science; Medical, Indigenous and Health Sciences; Nursing; Psychology and the Graduate School of Medicine. With such a diverse science and health focus, SMAH is positioned to be a major force in connected and science-embedded education and translational science, medical and health research in Australia.

The School of Science (SSCI) teaches and conducts research in Biomedical Sciences including Biochemistry, Molecular Biophysics, Microbiology and Cell and Molecular Biology, all disciplines of Chemistry including Atmospheric, Medicinal and Environmental Chemistry, as well as Conservation Biology, Earth Surface Processes, Ecology, Ecotoxicology, Environmental Science, Geology, Marine Biology and Spatial Sciences.

SSCI has a global research presence facilitated by its strengths in the both the Molecular Horizons Research Institute and Environmental Futures Centre. SSCI staff have global research connections providing multi-faceted opportunities for knowledge growth and development..

What You'll Bring

You hold a relevant degree (e.g. Science or Medical Science) or equivalent experience, with hands-on laboratory expertise. You have strong knowledge of WHS practices, including hazardous materials handling and experience in bacterial culture, microscopy, and molecular bioscience techniques.

You’re confident using a range of lab equipment and bring strong organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to troubleshoot and manage competing priorities effectively.

Role Details

  • Permanent/Continuing, part-time appointment (28 hours per week, 0.8FTE)
  • Level 5: $84,002 - $94,998 (pro-rata) + 17% Superannuation
  • Wollongong Campus
  • Valid Australian work rights required. Visa sponsorship is not available

Special Job requirements

  • You may be required to work outside standard business hours as dictated by the Laboratory Timetable and operational requirements.
  • Manual handling of large items, exposure to hazardous chemical and sharp hazards in a risk-controlled environment will be a regular part of this role.
  • This position is not suitable for remote work in accordance with the UOW Remote Working Guidelines.
  • Requirement to maintain a First Aid certificate during tenure of position.
  • This position requires a pre-employment medical be undertaken to demonstrate satisfactory fitness to undertake the physical requirements of this position.
