The Position

Do you thrive on building trusted scientific partnerships and translating insights into meaningful outcomes for patients?

As a Senior Medical Science Liaison, you will build trusted partnerships with doctors and key opinion leaders (KOLs) by driving peer-to-peer scientific exchange and increasing disease awareness in alignment with therapeutic area and asset strategies. Through a deep understanding of the healthcare landscape, stakeholder networks, and patient care pathways, you will help inform strategic decisions, support organizational goals, and contribute to improved patient care. Working closely with doctors and KOLs, you will identify opportunities for healthcare solutions and data generation, gather actionable insights, and contribute to the development and execution of strategies that support early clinical adoption of Boehringer Ingelheim assets.

Tasks and Responsibilities

1. Stakeholder Engagement

• From the clinical development phase onwards, identify, profile, and strategically engage with relevant external stakeholders within the territory to build long-term partnerships and facilitate early clinical adoption. Stakeholders may include, but are not limited to, External Experts (EEs), Healthcare Professionals (HCPs), Centres of Excellence (CoEs), Healthcare Organisations (HCOs), key decision-makers.
• Develop a deep understanding of stakeholder networks, the healthcare landscape, and patient care pathways in collaboration with cross-functional team members. Use this understanding to develop and execute a territory-specific strategic stakeholder engagement plan aligned with Therapeutic Area (TA) priorities, Scientific Objectives (SOs), and Integrated Asset Plans (IAPs).
• Apply the principles of the Hybrid Customer Engagement Model for Medical (H-CEMM) and Strategic Account Management (SAM) in external stakeholder interactions.
• Communicate scientific data and asset value propositions effectively through omnichannel engagement, tailoring interactions to stakeholder preferences and needs.
• Recognise gaps within patient journeys and identify opportunities to improve referral pathways and patient outcomes.
• Lead or support medical education activities, roundtable discussions, advisory boards, congresses, scientific sessions, and medical booths.

2. Gathering Insights

• Proactively gather and document actionable insights related to disease management, healthcare landscapes, patient journeys, stakeholder networks, clinical and educational gaps, clinical development, competitor activities, future trends, market access, patient outcomes, stakeholder needs, and product use in clinical practice.
• Share insights with Medical Affairs and cross-functional teams, as appropriate, to stimulate scientific exchange and identify collaborative opportunities.
• Develop, execute, or support strategies and actions informed by stakeholder insights

3. Cross-Functional Collaboration and Scientific Support

• Share learnings with cross-functional teams and collaborate to maximize opportunities.
• Support Clinical Development and Operations activities, including site and investigator identification, site initiation, and identification of recruitment gaps.
• Collaborate with Market Access, Healthcare Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR), and Healthcare Affairs teams to support scientific discussions and communicate asset value propositions.
• Explore patient needs and challenges in partnership with the Patient Engagement team.
• Support the implementation of Early Access Programs and related initiatives.
• Support the development of resources and delivery of training for medical and non-medical colleagues.
• Lead or support the identification and briefing of external speakers.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on data-generation activities, including External Collaborative Research, Observational Non-Interventional Studies, Investigator-Initiated Studies, and Real-World Evidence initiatives.

About Our Future Employee

• Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Health Sciences, or a related medical discipline.
• Advanced qualifications such as an MD, PhD, or MBA would be highly regarded.
• Strong Medical Affairs experience within the pharmaceutical industry, ideally with launch experience or having supported a major new indication/product launch.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills, particularly the ability to engage confidently with both internal cross-functional teams and external experts.
• Strong scientific and clinical acumen, with the ability to interpret, communicate and discuss data effectively with HCPs and KOLs.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and execute in a fast-paced environment
• A collaborative mindset and willingness to work closely across functions to ensure alignment and a seamless launch preparation process.
• Located in Sydney, Australia, with the ability to travel as required.
