The office of ​Dr. Gordon Reid MP​ is seeking applications for a ​full-time ongoing Digital Communications Advisor, based in the electorate of Robertson (Central Coast, NSW).

Position Overview

Dr. Gordon Reid MP, Federal Member for Robertson, is seeking a creative, analytical, highly organised digital communications advisor to join his electorate office and to support his role as a Parliamentarian.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead and deliver the office's digital communications strategy, ensuring local communities across the Central Coast remain informed, engaged and connected with the work of their Federal Member.

The successful applicant will be responsible for producing high-quality digital content, managing social media platforms, developing community-focused campaigns, and helping communicate government initiatives, local and federal advocacy and electorate achievements. The role also includes a limited traditional media function, supporting media releases, interview coordination, and local media engagement when required.

This role will involve frequent travel within the electorate and some interstate travel, including to Parliament House, Canberra (ACT). There will be occasional irregular work hours, particularly during parliamentary sitting weeks.

The key duties of the position include but are not limited to:

• Support the work of Dr. Reid as the parliamentarian.
• Develop and implement a digital communications strategy aligned with Dr. Reid's priorities and community advocacy.
• Create engaging content for Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube, and emerging digital platforms.
• Produce and edit high-quality videos, reels, graphics, photography, and written content.
• Maintain and manage content calendars, social media scheduling, and campaign planning.
• Draft social media copy, newsletters, website content and community updates.
• Monitor digital engagement, audience sentiment, and emerging local and federal issues.
• Analyse content performance and provide regular reporting on audience growth and engagement.
• Attend local community and federal events, stakeholder meetings, and electorate activities to capture content.
• Support the development of digital campaigns highlighting local projects, government initiatives, and constituent services.
• Assist with media releases, interview opportunities, and media monitoring when required.
• Work closely with electorate office staff to identify stories, events and issues of community interest.
• Ensure all communications are accurate, professional and reflect parliamentary and government standards.

The ideal applicant should possess the following skills, qualifications, and experience

• Demonstrated experience in digital communications, content creation, marketing, journalism, public relations or a related field.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
• Advanced experience with video and graphic editing platforms.
• Strong photography and videography skills.
• Experience managing social media channels and delivering audience growth strategies.
• Ability to produce creative content within tight deadlines.
• Strong attention to detail and organisational skills.
• Ability to work autonomously while contributing positively to a small team environment.
• An understanding of political, governmental or community engagement environments.

Desirable skills, qualifications, and experience

• Experience working in a parliamentary, government, political, advocacy or not-for-profit setting.
• Knowledge of the Central Coast community and local issues, preferred.
• Experience with website management, email marketing, and digital analytics platforms.

Employment conditions:

The position is offered under the Members of Parliament (Staff) Act 1984 and conditions are outlined in the Commonwealth Members of Parliament Staff Enterprise Agreement 2024-27 which include:

• A commencing salary between $79,525 and $92,846 will be negotiated depending on experience and relevant skills.
• An additional optional allowance may be considered in recognition of, and as compensation for, reasonable additional hours of work and any travel requirements.
• Relocation assistance, studies assistance and paid study leave may also be available (subject to eligibility requirements).
• An employer superannuation contribution of 15.4% will be payable.

• An initial probationary period of three months may apply and may be subject to extension.
• The successful applicant may be required to undergo a National Police History Check.
• Staff may be subject to automatic cessation triggers in accordance with Section 14 of the MOP(S) Act.
• The successful applicant will be required to comply with their obligations under the Behaviour Codes and Standards
• Successful applicants will be required to comply with the Social Media Policy of the Robertson Office.
• For staff employed by a Minister or Parliamentary Secretary either in a personal or electorate staff position, it is a condition of your employment that you obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 2 security clearance and comply with the Ministerial Staff Code of Conduct.
