About the Legislative Policy Unit Queensland Health's Legislative Policy Unit leads the development of primary and subordinate legislation. Our team delivers a broad range of complex and meaningful legislative reform projects. Recent reforms have spanned tobacco and vaping, mental health, assisted reproductive technology, medicines and poisons regulation, cosmetic surgery, radiation safety, and pharmacy business ownership-offering opportunities to work on legislation that has a real impact on Queensland's health system. The team's work includes coordinating legislative development processes, liaising with departmental subject matter experts, preparing Cabinet submissions, briefings, drafting instructions and explanatory materials, instructing Parliamentary Counsel, consulting internal and external stakeholders and developing written materials to support introduction, Parliamentary Committee and debate processes (for primary legislation) and Governor-in-Council consideration (for subordinate legislation). About the role As a Policy Officer in Queensland Health's Legislative Policy Unit, you will play an important role in supporting the delivery of legislative reforms across a wide variety of health-related areas. Working within a collaborative team, you will provide project coordination, administrative and secretariat support to help deliver multiple legislative priorities. You will work closely with policy teams, subject matter experts and stakeholders to coordinate processes, prepare high-quality written materials, support governance activities and contribute to project delivery. In this role, you will be responsible for: Providing project coordination, governance and administrative support for legislative projects across the Health portfolio. Providing secretariat support for working groups, including coordinating agendas, meeting papers, minutes, action items and stakeholder communications. Participating as a team member in legislative projects undertaken by the unit. Assisting with the preparation of high quality and timely briefing notes, ministerial communications, reports, submissions and correspondence. Assisting with legislative policy reviews, analysing and reporting on submissions, and developing briefings and issues papers requiring research. Providing support and advice to policy areas within Queensland Health on processes and procedures for developing and amending legislation. About you We are looking for people who have: Demonstrated experience in project coordination, secretariat support, policy development or legal skills working within a complex service delivery environment. Strong organisational skills and the ability to effectively manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work to tight timeframes. Demonstrated experience, or the ability to acquire experience, in coordinating committees or working groups, including preparing agendas, meeting papers, minutes and action tracking. Proven skills in researching and analysing policy issues and providing high quality and timely advice in relation to those issues. Familiarity with, or the ability to quickly gain knowledge of, the Parliamentary, Cabinet and Executive Council processes. A genuine interest in learning about legislative policy and developing legislative policy skills.
