About Orygen

Orygen is Australia’s Centre of Excellence in Youth Mental Health and the largest translational research organisation dedicated to youth mental health in the world.

For over 30 years, Orygen has led groundbreaking early intervention and developed evidence-based models of care to improve the mental health outcomes of young people aged 12-25.

About the job

The Practice Nurse will join our clinical team at headspace Glenroy, to support the delivery of services to young people in our centre-based Youth Health Clinics, and our local Doctors in Secondary Schools (DISS) clinics.

Working collaboratively with GPs, you'll support young people across a broad range of health needs. While mental health is an important aspect of the role, the position also encompasses physical, sexual, and reproductive health and overall wellbeing.

The DiSS Clinic is an innovative and highly rewarding program that takes primary healthcare directly to young people within their school environment, improving access and reducing barriers to care.

Reporting to the Clinical Services Manager you will:
  • Provide youth-friendly health services under the direction of Clinical Services Manager and GPs, including assistance with assessments, procedures, and care plans within scope of practice.
  • Coordinate day-to-day operations of the youth health and DISS clinics, including triaging, appointment scheduling, referrals, medical supplies, and client follow-ups.
  • Collaborate with staff, school wellbeing teams, and external services to provide consultation, support, and advocacy for young people.
  • Deliver health education to young people and the community on topics such as sexual health, vaccinations, general wellbeing, and support mental health promotion activities.
  • Maintain clinical and accreditation standards through accurate record-keeping, infection control, and equipment/supply management.
Skills and experience

The following criteria must be met for consideration for this position:
  • Registered Nurse, Level 3-4, and full registration with AHPRA.
  • Experience in practice nursing or community health, with a strong understanding of adolescent health issues including mental health, AOD, and sexual health.
  • Knowledge of youth-related legislation, consent, mandatory reporting, and evidence-based treatment options for young people.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to engage young people, families, and professionals in collaborative care and clinic coordination.
  • Proficient in medical software and clinic operations, with a commitment to best practice, confidentiality, and health promotion activities.
Availability to work both Tuesdays and Wednesdays is required.

Benefits
  • $42.93 - $55.57 p.h commensurate with skills and experience + 12% superannuation + $15,900 in NFP salary packaging + $2,600 meals and entertainment card.
  • Make a real impact on young people in a dynamic, youth-centered environment.
  • Support Orygen's mission for youth mental health and contribute to positive social change.
  • Thrive in a supportive, inclusive culture that values diversity and promotes well-being.
