At present we are recruiting across the Barwon Precinct - Barwon Prison, Marngoneet Correctional Centre (Karreenga) and Western Plains Correctional Centre.

The role

As a prison officer, you play a crucial part in a person’s rehabilitation journey and ensure the safety and security of the facility.

Prison officers supervise daily activities, support positive behaviour, and respond to incidents to ensure the safe operation of the prison.

You will be challenged, but your resilience and dedication will help you thrive.

We’re seeking strong communicators who approach each day with professionalism, resilience and a belief that people can change.

There are no specific qualifications or professional backgrounds required. Life experience, communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team are highly valued.

What’s in it for you

Sign-on bonus

New prison officers are eligible for a bonus of up to $8,000. Six months after commencing, you will receive a payment of $4,000. Then, after one year’s full-time employment, you will receive an additional payment of $4,000. Conditions and eligibility criteria apply, see our website for details.

Eligibility

To apply, you must:

  • be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or hold Australian permanent residency
  • hold a current Australian driver licence (minimum P2)
  • have the physical fitness required to safely perform the role
