Montu is Australia's largest healthtech business with a focus on alternative healthcare. Founded in 2019, it supports patients, doctors and pharmacies through its Alternaleaf clinic, offers accredited healthcare education to clinicians via its SAGED platform, and dispensing solutions to pharmacies across Australia through Leafio. Montu is also the founding member of Cannabis Council Australia, a non-for-profit advocacy body that advances legislative change across the healthcare landscape. Our mission is to make alternative healthcare more affordable and accessible for the millions who could benefit.

Montu has been recognised as Australia’s fastest-growing tech company in the Deloitte TechFast 50 for two consecutive years (#1 in 2022 and 2023), achieving remarkable revenue growth of 26,000% and 9,000%. Named #1 on LinkedIn’s Top Startups Australia 2024, Montu has cemented its position as the largest business of its kind outside North America and continues to evolve on its journey.

This role is an Australia-based, fully work-from-home position, with access to co-working spaces in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Job Description

As the Medical Writer for Montu, you will be responsible for developing high-quality, evidence-based content for healthcare professionals (HCPs) that supports both clinical integrity and commercial objectives across the business. This role requires the ability to confidently produce both technical medical writing and creative copy, translating complex scientific information into clear, compelling and audience-appropriate communications. Content may include a range of print and digital marketing collateral including email campaigns, sales enablement collateral, product guides, educational programs, clinical resources, case studies, and website content.

Working closely with medical, legal, design, and other cross-functional stakeholders, you will combine scientific expertise with strategic thinking to create compelling medical communications that meet campaign objectives, regulatory requirements and agreed timelines. Success in this role not only requires the ability to develop effective content but also manage multiple concurrent projects, deliver high-quality work at pace, own projects, and proactively collaborate with stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

Medical Content Strategy:

  • Translate commercial and marketing briefs into evidence-based medical content that meet campaign objectives while maintaining scientific integrity.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including medical, legal and design, to ensure medical content supports overall business objectives.
  • Conduct thorough research on medical and scientific topics to gather up-to-date relevant information.
  • Maintain brand voice, messaging frameworks and tone guidelines across brands and audiences.
  • Contribute to the Montu content strategy.

Content Creation:

  • Develop medical content from ideation to publication, ensuring adherence to timelines and quality standards in a clinical environment.
  • Take ownership of briefs, proactively managing progress, approvals, and dependencies.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to develop creative concepts and campaign messaging that align with strategic objectives and resonate with clinical audiences.
  • Interpret and synthesise complex data from medical studies, clinical trials, and other sources, presenting it clearly, accurately, and compellingly.
  • Write, proofread, and copyedit clear, evidence-based content across formats — including eDMs, medical education, sales collateral, digital content, advertising, conference slides, advisory board minutes, articles, and blog posts.
  • Ensure sources are accurately referenced and brand voice and tone remain consistent across all touchpoints.
  • Serve as a point of authority and strategic advice for therapeutic areas.
  • Balance scientific accuracy with commercial objectives, producing content that is audience-appropriate and fit for purpose.

Reporting & Regulations:

  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies and trends in medical content marketing, recommending innovative approaches to engage target audiences.
  • Stay up to date with TGA and industry regulations and ensure medical content is adhering to requirements.

Cross Functional Collaboration:

  • Communicate with stakeholders proactively, professionally, and with a solution-focused approach.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather necessary information and review drafts for accuracy and completeness.
  • Collaborate with B2B and B2C marketing, design, medical and legal teams to optimise communications.
  • Work with the CRM team to optimise email marketing performance.
  • Participate in and run workshops and ideation sessions to assist with content and campaign development.

Quality Control:

  • Work within established content review and approvals workflows, including compliance, legal, and medical review processes, to ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to TGA guidelines.
  • Ensure all medical and scientific claims are supported by appropriate references and that references accurately substantiate associated statements.
  • Iterate all work based on feedback and apply it across all related campaign assets.
  • Ensure all outputs effectively convey the organisation's values and voice.

Qualifications
  • Degree in Health Sciences, Life Sciences, Communications, Journalism or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a Medical Writer, specifically in the healthcare industry.
  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex scientific information into clear, concise language.
  • Ability to receive, interpret, and implement feedback effectively and professionally.
  • Proven ability to work across both scientific/medical content and creative campaign messaging.
  • Understanding of the medical and pharmaceutical sectors and codes/guidelines.
  • Strong understanding of medical terminology and TGA regulatory requirements.
  • Understanding of content marketing strategies and SEO principles.
  • Exceptional project management management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to derive insights and adjust content strategies based on performance metrics.
  • Proficiency in approval systems and project management software.
  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, problem-solve, and drive results.
  • Passion for staying current with industry developments and continuously learning and evolving in the field of content marketing.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, committed to producing content designs aligned with brand standards
  • Demonstrated ownership and accountability for delivering projects from brief through to publishing.
