About the opportunity
We are seeking to appoint a Lawyer in the Legal and Audit section of Student Services and Operations Division. The opportunity will be supervised and provide targeted professional development opportunities. This role is suited to a lawyer seeking to develop broad in-house experience across a diverse legal practice within a supportive team.
The Lawyer will have sound knowledge and practical experience in contract and commercial law, experience in the provision of legal advice on research, privacy, compliance, intellectual property, and commercial matters. The Lawyer will require good organisational skills, initiative and the ability to manage a range of competing priorities.
What you’ll do:
- Draft, negotiate, and advise on information technology, commercial, research consultancy, employment, international and other contracts with a strong focus on research and intellectual property.
- Assist with compliance and regulatory matters, including data breaches, Right to Information requests, and governance or policy-related advice.
- Ensure legal advice appropriately reflects applicable State and Commonwealth legislation and other legal requirements to support compliance.
- Educate and advise academic and professional staff of the University about their legal responsibilities and accountabilities.
- Represent Legal Services and the University on working parties and committees, both internal and external, as required.
What we’re looking for:
- Admitted or eligible for admission as a legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of Tasmania.
- At least 2 years post admission experience in legal practice, in private practice and/or in-house or relevant government experience with an interest in the Higher Education sector.
- Ability to manage competing priorities in a high-volume advisory environment.
- Demonstrated ability to apply legal knowledge in a practical, risk-based way in a complex organisational environment.
- Good interpersonal skills including ability to negotiate, motivate, influence and build relationships.
Salary details
Appointment to this role will be at HEO 6 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $116,872 comprising base salary within the range of $92,120 to $99,891 plus 17% superannuation.
