Full job description

  • 12-month fixed-term opportunity
  • Make a meaningful difference for survivors

The National Redress Scheme and the Territories Stolen Generations Redress Scheme are entering their final stages, and there is urgent work to do. Before applications close, Knowmore is focused on helping as many survivors as possible understand their options, access legal advice and make informed decisions about applying for redress.

We are looking for Lawyers who want to use their legal skills in a role with real purpose. In this 12-month fixed-term position, you will support people who have experienced institutional child sexual abuse and Stolen Generations survivors to navigate sensitive, complex and deeply personal legal issues with care, respect and dignity.

About Knowmore

Knowmore is a free, independent and confidential legal service. Our work is trauma-informed, culturally safe and survivor-centred. We recognise that every person’s experience is different, and we are committed to providing advice and support in a way that is respectful, empowering and responsive to each client’s needs.

You will be part of a supportive and friendly team environment where collaboration, learning and wellbeing matter. We value people who bring empathy, sound judgement, cultural humility and a commitment to social justice.

About the role

As a Lawyer at Knowmore, you will provide legal information, advice and assistance to clients considering or progressing applications under redress schemes. You will work closely with colleagues across legal, social work, financial counselling and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander engagement teams to ensure clients receive holistic and culturally safe support.

This role may be time limited, but its impact is not. If you want to make a difference in people’s lives, contribute to healing and justice, and be part of a service that walks alongside survivors at a critical point in time, this is a meaningful way to do it.

About you

We are seeking Lawyers who are compassionate, practical and committed to working in a trauma-informed and culturally safe way. You will bring strong communication skills, the ability to build trust with clients, and a thoughtful approach to working with people who may be experiencing distress, grief or trauma.

Experience in redress, personal injury, human rights, administrative law, community legal services, First Nations justice issues or working with people who have experienced trauma will be highly regarded. Most importantly, you will share Knowmore’s commitment to access to justice and respectful, survivor-centred practice.

Why join us?

  • Use your legal skills to support survivors at a critical time.
  • Work in a trauma-informed, culturally safe and values-led organisation.
  • Be part of a supportive, friendly and collaborative team.
  • Contribute to work that has a direct and lasting impact in people’s lives.
  • Take on a purposeful 12-month fixed-term role with clear community benefit.

How to apply

If you are a Lawyer who wants to do work that matters, we would love to hear from you.

Apply now to join Knowmore and help survivors access the advice and support they need before redress scheme applications close. Visit https://knowmore.org.au/about-us/work-at-knowmore/ for further information.
