About the role

The Project Director reports to the Executive Director, Delivery and is accountable for the leadership, governance and end-to-end delivery of a major project or defined package of works within VIDA Rail. The role leads multi-disciplinary teams across development, procurement and delivery phases to achieve approved scope, budget, schedule, safety and quality outcomes.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead procurement and contract management activities for the project, including tender processes and evaluations, contract award processes, commercial management, quality assurance and risk management.
  • Lead engineering and construction teams to deliver the project within approved scope, time and budget parameters.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with government departments, regulators, agencies, councils, operators and other key stakeholders to support successful project delivery.
  • Lead complex negotiations with senior representatives from public transport operators, delivery partners and appointed contractors on critical project matters, including scheduling, access, interfaces, claims, variations and delay mitigation.

The role is a 3-year fixed term position, paying a Total Remuneration Package between $298,489 - $430,740 with hybrid working arrangements (a mix of CBD office and home/remote based working).

You are an experienced senior leader with a strong track record delivering complex infrastructure programs. You bring a strategic mindset, exceptional stakeholder management skills, and the ability to lead high-performing teams in demanding, high-profile environments.

You thrive in complexity, can navigate competing priorities and risks, and are confident providing advice at executive level while driving outcomes on the ground.

The capabilities you bring to this role

  • Extensive senior leadership experience in the development and delivery of major construction, engineering or transport infrastructure projects of significant scale, complexity and public profile.
  • Demonstrated expertise in project governance, construction management, procurement strategy, contract management and commercial administration in complex infrastructure environments.
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage a broad range of matters affecting project delivery, including legal, land, planning, environmental and political considerations.
  • Strong understanding of government policy objectives, transport strategies, project governance requirements and industry issues relevant to major project delivery.
