Psychologist/Clinical Psychologist (Gender Service)

About the Role
This is a part time (0.2FTE) position at 15.2 hours per fortnight within the Department of Adolescent Medicine Gender Service. The successful applicant must be available on a Thursday or Friday due to room allocation.
You will be responsible for:
Psychologist (Grade 2)
Providing high quality, evidence-based assessment, treatment and support to children and adolescents referred to the Gender Service and their families, attend and contribute in team meetings and participate in research activities.
Clinical Psychologist (Grade 3):
Providing high quality, evidence-based assessment, treatment and support to children and adolescents referred to the Gender Service and their families, attend and contribute in team meetings, participate in Research and clinical evaluation activities and providing supervision to Grade 2 Psychologists.
Classification for this position will range from PK1 – PL3 depending on experience (FTE base salary $94,478.80 - $123,905.60 per annum, plus superannuation).
What you’ll achieve:
Psychologist (Grade 2):
- Function independently as a Psychologist to provide evidence-informed psychological care to those referred to the Gender Service with gender concerns, gender non-conforming expression and gender dysphoria while maintaining a clinical case load.
- Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date and timely patient records that accurately reflect clinical consultations and decisions including assessment details, diagnosis, treatment plans, capacity assessments, complications, reports and discharge letters
- Attend case conferences, peer review meetings and seminars pertaining to the Gender Service.
- Participate in regular peer supervision and clinical supervision.
Clinical Psychologist (Grade 3):
- Function independently as a clinical psychologist, within the Gender Service team, and manage a complex and varied caseload.
- Provide excellent evidence-informed psychological care to those referred to the Gender Service with gender concerns, gender non-conforming expression and gender dysphoria
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date and timely patient records that accurately reflect clinical consultations and decisions including assessment details, diagnosis, treatment plans, capacity assessments, complications, reports and discharge letters.
- Provide effective supervision to Grade 2 psychologists, psychology registrars and psychology interns as appropriate.
- Participation in teaching (internal and external).
- Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams.
Your skills and experience
Psychologist (Grade 2):
Essential:
- Hold a minimum Master of Psychology degree qualification from an accredited course/university.
- Be registered with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA).
- Continuously satisfy the PsyBA continuing professional development standards.
- Uphold the PsyBA Code of Ethics.
- Hold an Area of Practice Endorsement in Clinical Psychology, or be working towards an Area of Practice endorsement in Clinical Psychology with PsyBA.
- Experience in psychological assessment and treatment including advanced knowledge of a least one major therapeutic modality.
- Substantial knowledge of psychological and developmental differences and mental health disorders, and the impact of these on children, young people and their families.
Desirable:
- 3+ years’ experience working with children and/or adolescents as a psychologist.
- Experience working with LGBTQIA+ young people.
- Experience working in multidisciplinary teams
- Understanding and/or experience in research and/or applying program evaluation to health services.
Clinical Psychologist (Grade 3):
Essential:
- Hold a minimum Master of Psychology degree qualification from an accredited course/university
- Be registered with the Psychology Board of Australia (PsyBA)
- Have a minimum of five years professional experience as a Psychologist Grade 2 (or equivalent)
- Hold an Area of Practice Endorsement with the Board in a relevant area of practice for this role.
- Hold Board-approved supervisor status, including Board approval as a ‘Registrar Program Principal Supervisor’.
- Have an experience in clinical practice in the area of paediatric psychology
- Demonstrated experience in functioning independently as a psychologist and provision of a range of psychology services.
- Demonstrated ability to supervise clinical staff and post-graduate students.
- Continuously satisfy the PsyBA continuing professional development standards.
- Uphold the PsyBA Code of Ethics.
- Advanced experience and skills in at least two major evidence-informed therapeutic modalities.
- Well-developed understanding of child and adolescent development and ability to practice from a developmental perspective.
- Substantial knowledge of psychological and developmental differences and mental health disorders, and the impact of these on children, young people and their families.
Desirable:
- Experience working with LGBTQIA+ young people.
- Experience working in multidisciplinary teams
- Understanding and/or experience in research and/or applying program evaluation to health services.

About the Department
The Department of Adolescent Medicine provides healthcare and support to adolescents and their families via a range of specialist multidisciplinary services. These include the RCH Gender Service, Eating Disorders Service, Chronic Illness Peer Support (ChIPS), Young People’s Health Service and the Transition Support Service, in both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
The RCH Gender Service is a Victorian state-wide service providing multidisciplinary care for trans and gender diverse children and adolescents up until their 16th birthday. The assessment, treatment and support provided by the RCH Gender Service is consistent with the Australian Standards of Care and Treatment Guidelines for trans and gender diverse children and adolescents (v1.4 2023) and the World Professional Association for Transgender Health, Standards of Care, Version 8
