## Position Overview

We are looking for a highly skilled and detail-oriented Quantity Surveyor to join our team and play a pivotal role in managing construction costs across all stages of a project's lifecycle. The successful candidate will bring strong commercial acumen and technical expertise to support sound financial decision-making from feasibility through to project completion. This role suits a proactive professional with a thorough understanding of the Australian construction industry and a commitment to delivering projects on time and within budget. You will work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and clients to ensure robust cost control and transparent financial reporting throughout.

## Key Responsibilities

- Analyse architectural and engineering drawings, specifications, and project documentation to prepare accurate and detailed cost estimates, cost plans, and feasibility studies that support effective budgetary control.
- Monitor design developments and changes throughout the project lifecycle, assessing their financial impact and measuring, valuing, and negotiating variations in a timely and transparent manner.
- Prepare and issue tender documentation, evaluate subcontractor and supplier submissions, and provide clear recommendations to assist in procurement decisions.
- Manage the full contract administration process, including the preparation and assessment of progress claims, payment certificates, and final accounts in accordance with relevant contract conditions.
- Develop and maintain detailed cash flow forecasts, cost reports, and financial summaries to keep stakeholders informed and ensure projects remain financially viable.
- Identify, assess, and advise on commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project, implementing appropriate mitigation strategies in collaboration with the project team.
- Liaise effectively with clients, contractors, consultants, and internal teams to resolve commercial issues, respond to queries, and maintain strong professional relationships.
- Prepare and negotiate claims, including extensions of time and loss and expense, ensuring all submissions are well-substantiated and compliant with contractual obligations.
- Assist in the preparation of project budgets at inception stage and provide ongoing cost advice to support value engineering initiatives and design optimisation.
- Maintain accurate and organised project records, ensuring all documentation is stored, version-controlled, and accessible in line with company and project requirements.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of cost management processes, templates, and reporting frameworks across the business.

## Required Qualifications & Skills

- Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of demonstrated experience as a Quantity Surveyor within the Australian construction industry.
- Proven ability to prepare detailed cost plans, estimates, and tender documentation across a range of project types and values.
- Strong working knowledge of standard forms of construction contract used in Australia, including AS 4000, AS 4300, and NEC or similar.
- Proficiency in industry-standard estimating and cost management software, such as CostX, Buildsoft, or equivalent platforms.
- High-level analytical and numerical skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial information clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Solid understanding of construction methodology, scheduling, and project delivery methods including lump sum, design and construct, and managing contractor models.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills with a commercially minded approach to problem-solving.

## Preferred Qualifications

- Membership with or working towards membership of the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS) or the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
- Experience across multiple project sectors, including commercial, residential, infrastructure, industrial, or government.
- Familiarity with Building Information Modelling (BIM) processes and 5D cost modelling workflows.
- Exposure to early contractor involvement (ECI) or alliance contracting delivery models.
- Post-graduate qualifications in construction law, project management, or a related field.
- Experience working on projects valued at $50 million or above.
