About the role:
As a Clinical Assistant, you will provide support to the Microbiology Division by providing assistance to health practitioner staff and administrative staff. This support will include:
Processing various clinical microbiology, molecular and serology specimen types as instructed, including samples for Respiratory PCR testing.
Providing data entry support in the microbiology division office and various clerical tasks as required.
Performance of a range of non-technical laboratory tasks including glassware and cleaning and maintenance duties.
Your key resonsibilites:
Participate in the operational duties including sample preparation and processing to facilitate SARS-CoV-2, and other respiratory viruses.
Work with integrity, complying with expected ethical and behavioural standards, respecting patient confidentiality and the importance of patient results.
Participate in shift, weekend and after hours work if required, in accordance with the award.
Provide support and assistance in the specimen reception and setup area under the direction of the rostered Health Practitioner and the Chief Scientist inclusive of;
Perform microbiology setup.
Perform QC temperature checks and maintenance as required, accurately recording results and notifying supervisors of non-conformances
Actively monitor the receipt and distribution of specimens as directed

Role fit:
You will play a key role in supporting Microbiology and Molecular Microbiology laboratory services, performing a diverse range of specimen reception, processing and preparation tasks to a consistently high standard in accordance with established protocols. You will bring, or quickly develop, sound knowledge of microbiology laboratory processes and demonstrate strong computer, data entry and information retrieval skills. With excellent attention to detail and the ability to follow procedures accurately, you will work effectively both independently and as part of a team, including in environments requiring minimal supervision. Your proficiency in the use of laboratory equipment, combined with an understanding of quality management and continuous improvement principles, will support the delivery of safe, accurate and efficient laboratory services. Strong communication, literacy and numeracy skills will further enable you to contribute to high-quality outcomes in a fast-paced diagnostic environment.
