About the Role:
There are two fantastic full-time opportunities available within the Finance Department, each working 80 hours per fortnight: 1x Ongoing position and 1x 12-month Fixed Term position.The Patient Liaison Officer is responsible for driving private patient revenue by liaising with patients for election and eligibility as a private or compensable patient and to ensure all necessary documentation is completed. The position also provides advice and support to the billing team as the content expert to facilitate billing and collections.
Classification for this position will range from AO31 (Grade 3, Level 1) to AO35 (Grade 3, Level 5), base salary $77,426.44 to $85,597.72 per annum, plus superannuation, leave loading.
What you’ll achieve:
- Drive private patient revenue by supporting eligible patients through the private health insurance election process
- Improve conversion rates and revenue capture by proactively identifying and engaging with insured patients across wards and clinics
- Ensure accurate, timely completion of admission, election, and billing documentation for private and compensable patients
- Support informed financial consent by providing patients and families with clear, accurate and timely information regarding private health insurance, Medicare eligibility, potential out-of-pocket costs and financial responsibilities
- Identify and resolve billing or eligibility issues that may impact revenue collection and patient accounts
Your skills and experience:

Proficient in Microsoft Office and experience using Electronic Medical Records and billing systems
-
Previous experience in a Patient Liaison, Revenue Services, or similar role within the public healthcare sector
-
Sound understanding of Medicare billing guidelines, private patient billing, and private health fund requirements
-
Ability to work autonomously while contributing effectively as part of a broader team
-
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to investigate and resolve eligibility, billing and account-related issues
-
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to explain financial information clearly and sensitively to patients and families
