This opportunity is intended to be undertaken as an unpaid, university-approved vocational or Work Integrated Learning (WIL) placement, subject to approval by the student’s university.

It is designed for current engineering students who would like to gain supervised practical experience across solar, battery storage and smart energy projects while completing their university studies.

Eligible Students

Applicants must be currently studying:

  • Electrical Engineering
  • Renewable Energy Engineering
  • Energy Engineering
  • Power Systems
  • Mechatronic Engineering
  • A related engineering discipline

About Us

Aussie Hybrid Solar is the customer-facing solar and battery installation service brand operated by JT Solar Technology Pty Ltd, a Sydney-based renewable energy technology company established in 2009.

JT Solar Technology has established a Joint Battery Testing Laboratory with UNSW, supporting applied research into battery performance, safety, reliability and compatibility.

We also participate in government-supported clean energy initiatives, including projects delivered through the Trailblazer for Recycling and Clean Energy (TRaCE) program.

What You May Work On

During the placement, students may:

  • Review solar and battery project documentation
  • Review technical data sheets, product manuals and equipment specifications
  • Assist with supervised analysis of solar generation, energy usage and battery performance data
  • Support technical records, data summaries and draft reports
  • Review testing, installation and commissioning documentation
  • Research renewable energy technologies and technical questions
  • Compare equipment specifications and system information
  • Observe how engineering and project teams coordinate real renewable energy projects

All engineering-related activities will be completed under appropriate supervision.

Students will not undertake licensed electrical work, live electrical work or unsupervised high-risk activities.

Applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled at an Australian university
  • Have an interest in solar, battery storage and smart energy systems
  • Be organised, responsible and willing to learn
  • Be available to attend the placement in person

Experience with AutoCAD, electrical design software, Microsoft Excel, data analysis, technical report writing or equipment data sheets would be beneficial but is not essential.

Placement Arrangement

  • Location: Sydney, NSW — In person
  • Duration: Approximately 1–3 months, depending on university requirements
  • The attendance schedule will be agreed based on approved placement requirements and student availability.

Any future paid casual or part-time opportunities would be recruited separately and are not guaranteed as part of this placement.
