Who We Are
At Benevolent, we believe every person deserves to live life on their own terms, with dignity, respect and a sense of belonging. For over two centuries, as Australia's first charity, this belief has shaped who we are and how we work.
As a not-for-profit, independent and non-religious organisation, we are a practice-led organisation, our work is grounded in evidence and strengths-based approaches that place people at the centre of everything we do. We walk alongside individuals, families and communities, upholding rights, amplifying voices and advocating for safer, more inclusive systems where people can thrive.
Your Opportunity
Join our Rural Youth Mental Health team and help young people aged 12–25 across Western NSW build confidence, strengthen their social and emotional wellbeing, and move towards the goals that matter to them. Based in Mudgee, you’ll provide practical, recovery-focused support through individual therapeutic work, case management and group programs.
No two days will look quite the same. You’ll meet young people where they feel comfortable, work alongside families, communities and local services, and help make support easier to access. It’s a rewarding opportunity to build genuine connections and see young people recognise their strengths, find solutions and create meaningful change.
How You Will Contribute
- Build trusted, professional relationships with young people and keep them actively involved in their recovery journey.
- Complete assessments, identify risks and strengths, and develop, monitor and review individual recovery plans.
- Provide regular outreach, case management, therapeutic support and group programs tailored to each young person’s goals.
- Connect young people with schools, health services, GPs, allied health providers and other community supports.
- Participate in reviews and case conferences, maintain accurate records, and promptly escalate wellbeing or safety concerns.
- Work collaboratively within a supportive team while managing travel across the region, including occasional overnight stays.
Your Benefits
We support our people to live their best lives, with benefits that support your wellbeing, growth and lifestyle. Here are some of the key benefits, and we'd love to tell you more.
- Salary Packaging & Perks - Maximise your take-home pay with up to $15,900 in salary packaging including entertainment and vehicle packaging options to suit your lifestyle, corporate rates/discount with selected partners.
- Flexibility & Wellbeing - Enjoy hybrid work options, monthly ADOs (12 extra days off per year for full time staff), Fitness Passport access, EAP support, and the option to purchase additional leave.
- Recognition & Growth - Competitive pay, Benevolent You Make a Difference recognition program, service rewards, long service leave after 5 years, supportive performance and career check in’s and tailored professional development opportunities.
- Cultural Inclusion - Dedicated cultural leave and support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees, including leadership pathways and networking groups.
- Employee Networks - Connect through our diverse, employee-led networks that celebrate diversity and foster connection and allyship across shared experiences and identities
Your Skills and Experience
To thrive in this role, you’ll bring:
- A relevant degree in social work, psychology, occupational therapy, mental health or a related discipline, plus a current driver’s licence.
- At least 12 months’ experience supporting people with significant mental health concerns, ideally including young people.
- Experience completing comprehensive assessments and delivering recovery planning, case management, counselling, therapeutic interventions or group work.
- A strong understanding of issues that can intersect with mental health, including alcohol and other drug use, family and domestic violence, homelessness and social isolation.
- A calm, strengths-based and person-centred approach, with the ability to engage diverse communities and maintain clear professional boundaries.
- Strong communication, relationship-building and organisational skills, with the confidence to work autonomously, deliver outreach and travel when required.
This role aligns with the capability requirements of Individual Contributor level. Please see the Capability Framework attached to this advert to discover essential skills, values and behaviours required at this level.
