Full job description

Ready to make a real impact where it truly matters? Healthscope is on the lookout for a passionate and experienced Health, Safety & Wellbeing (HSW) Specialist to champion safety culture and drive meaningful change at The Geelong Clinic and across the portfolio.

This is your opportunity to step into a role where you’ll influence leaders, empower teams, and shape the future of workplace health, safety and wellbeing across a dynamic mental health environment.

About the Role

As the HSW Specialist, you’ll be the driving force behind the site’s HSW Improvement Plan. Working closely with the Hospital Executive Team, Department Managers, Supervisors and the Health & Safety Committee, you’ll lead, guide and support the implementation of our HSW Strategy and Management System.

Your expertise will help ensure compliance, strengthen safety leadership, and create a culture where every person feels safe, supported and confident at work.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Build capability and ownership across leadership teams through coaching, influencing and embedding best-practice HSW systems and programs.
  • Lead from the front with visible, proactive and field-based safety engagement.
  • Drive safe systems of work, quality investigations, and strong safety leadership through education, coaching and monitoring initiatives.
  • Provide specialist advice to Managers, Supervisors, committees and contractors to identify risks, opportunities and innovative solutions. Work closely with Executive and Department Heads.
  • Play a key role in risk management—facilitating assessments, supporting SOP development, verifying controls and leading LTI investigations.
  • Monitor and uplift performance, preparing reports, developing gap closure plans and supporting executive teams to track trends, hotspots and achievements. You will have autonomy to implement practical safety improvements.
  • Support regulatory compliance by participating in inspections and ensuring continual alignment with standards and requirements. Play a key role in accreditation and quality initiatives.
  • Contribute nationally, participating in state and national initiatives, strategic programs, forums and advisory committees.
