Details: Are you community minded? Do you like educating others in a fun and interactive way? The ACT Emergency Services Agency (ESA) is seeking a highly organised and community-focused Community Education and Engagement Officer to support the delivery of community preparedness and resilience initiatives across the ACT.

The Community Education and Engagement Officer plays an important role in supporting the ACT Rural Fire Service (ACTRFS) and ACT State Emergency Service (ACTSES) at the grassroots level by coordinating volunteers to deliver community education and engagement activities. These initiatives help build community awareness, resilience, and preparedness for bushfires, storms, floods, and other emergencies.

While ESA maintains a dedicated team responsible for major community events, this position focuses on the coordination and support of ACTRFS and ACTSES volunteers participating in local engagement activities, including brigade visits, school education programs, community information sessions, and other outreach opportunities.

Working under general direction, the successful candidate will ensure volunteers are effectively scheduled, appropriately equipped, and well supported to deliver high-quality community education. The role is critical in strengthening connections between emergency services and the community, empowering residents to better prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergency events.

Eligibility/Other requirements:

• Prior to commencing this role, a current registration issued under the Working with Vulnerable People (Background Checking) Act 2011 is required. For further information on Working with Vulnerable People registration refer to - Apply for or renew a WWVP registration - Access Canberra
• Background and Security clearance checks will be conducted including National Police Records Check.
• A minimum of a C class ACT drivers’ licence.
• A fitness test may be required if performing fireground activities.
• This position may be required to work after hours and at weekends, including attending meetings, local Unit and Brigade visits through periods of operational response. Participation in the Duty Officer roster in either Service may also be required.

Notes: A Merit Pool will be established from this selection process and will be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months. Selection may be based on application and referee reports only.
