Terms: Full-time, Continuing (contingent funded)
This position is continuing (contingent funded). The funding that supports this project has an expected end date of until 30 June 2028
The Position
This position will be based at the Research School of Earth Sciences (RSES), ANU College of Science and Medicine. The successful candidate will provide support for departmental computing systems and advice to researchers and students developing computational techniques and collecting and analysing geophysical data, and assist both in implementing their algorithms. Activities will include managing and updating compute servers and clusters and their network links, organisation and dissemination of geophysical datasets, programming of computational algorithms, support for users to setup and access software and hardware, administration of servers and computational clusters, as well as general programming support. There would also be opportunities for occasional participation in fieldwork, data collection and outreach.
The Person
The Scientific Programmer will support the computational and data management activities of Geophysics groups in RSES. They will apply broad computing skills in hardware, operating system management and programming to support staff in the application of computational methods to problems across the Earth Sciences. The Research School operates several local compute servers and clusters for data processing and compute intensive problems supported by the AuScope program, and maintains an active field program for collection of seismic and other geophysical data.
