Job Description Summary
Reporting to the Delivery Manager or Senior Field Supervisor, the role acts as the regional MDU subject matter expert for survey and scoping activity. The Field Scoper provides technical guidance to subcontractor surveyors and scopers, supports consistency of field methodology and standards, and performs quality assurance of survey and scoping submissions to improve accuracy, reduce rework and strengthen downstream delivery outcomes.
The role is accountable for survey quality, field-based technical judgement and submission assurance rather than broader project management. It provides a key control point between site conditions and design by ensuring field information is complete, practical and aligned to approved standards and delivery requirement
About the Role
Key Responsibilities
-
Undertake field survey and scoping activities for internal MDU cabling routes, and where required relevant external network assets, across allocated sites and regions.
-
Assess internal pathways, risers, comms rooms, lead-ins, common areas, relevant external assets and related infrastructure to determine practical and compliant route solutions.
-
Capture accurate field data, site constraints, access conditions, route options, equipment placement considerations and constructability requirements to support downstream design and delivery.
-
Produce clear, complete and accurate survey outputs, scope notes, marked-up drawings, measurements, photos and supporting documentation in approved formats and systems.
-
Act as the regional MDU subject matter expert for field scoping methodology, route selection and practical installation considerations.
-
Provide technical guidance, coaching and clarification to subcontractor surveyors and scopers to improve consistency, quality and alignment with program standards.
-
Review and quality assure survey and scoping submissions completed by subcontractor resources, identifying deficiencies, inaccuracies, missing information or practical issues requiring correction.
-
Support the uplift of field quality by providing feedback on survey standards, recurring errors, routeing practices and submission completeness.
-
Identify constructability risks, scope ambiguities, access issues, safety concerns or design constraints early and escalate them appropriately.
-
Work closely with design, delivery, engagement and project coordination teams to ensure survey outputs support right-first-time design and efficient handover into downstream execution.
-
Attend site meetings or technical reviews where required to support alignment on pathway decisions, field conditions or complex scoping matters.
-
Maintain accurate records of survey activity, quality findings, site observations, subcontractor feedback and submission status in approved systems.
-
Support continuous improvement by identifying recurring field issues, training needs, documentation gaps or process improvements that would improve scoping accuracy and delivery readiness
Experience required
-
Significant experience in telecommunications, MDU infrastructure, structured cabling, field survey, scoping or a similar site-based technical role.
-
Demonstrated experience assessing internal pathway routes, external network assets and site conditions for telecommunications or related infrastructure works.
-
Experience producing survey outputs, marked-up drawings, scope packs, route notes or field documentation to support design and delivery.
-
Experience reviewing field submissions for accuracy, completeness and constructability.
-
Experience providing technical guidance to subcontractors, surveyors, scopers or field personnel.
-
Experience identifying routeing issues, constructability risks, access constraints and design-impacting site conditions early in the process.
-
Experience working with design, delivery or project coordination teams to support efficient handover and right-first-time outcomes.
-
Experience in fibre, internal MDU cabling, riser design, pathway planning, FTTP or related network environments would be highly regarded.
-
Experience using Microsoft Office and field, drawing, survey or workflow management systems.
-
Strong experience applying practical field judgement in live operational environments with competing site conditions and delivery pressures.
Qualifications required
-
Relevant experience in telecommunications field survey, MDU scoping, cabling, infrastructure assessment or network delivery.
-
Current driver licence required.
-
Relevant industry accreditations, licences or client-required certifications highly regarded.
-
Any client, site or role-specific compliance requirements to be completed as required.
Competencies required
-
The following are the key skills, behaviours and attributes required for this role:
-
Strong field scoping and technical assessment capability.
-
Strong understanding of internal MDU cabling routes, relevant external network assets and practical pathway constraints.
-
High attention to detail and field data accuracy.
-
Ability to assess constructability and identify technical or access risks early.
-
Strong quality assurance and review capability.
-
Ability to guide and influence subcontractor survey resources constructively.
-
Clear written and verbal communication skills.
-
Strong planning, organisation and documentation discipline.
-
Ability to work independently while supporting broader regional outcomes.
-
Strong accountability and problem-solving capability.
-
Commitment to safety, quality and right-first-time delivery outcomes.
