Full job description

At Johnson Controls, we’ve been redefining smart, safe, and sustainable buildings since 1885. With the industry’s most comprehensive portfolio of building technologies, digital solutions, and services, our global team is driven by a shared purpose—to create environments where people live, work, learn, and thrive.

In Australia, we combine decades of expertise with leading-edge security technologies to deliver tailored solutions for a diverse range of customers and industries.

About the Role

We are seeking a Security Commissioning Technician to join our Systems team. This role is responsible for the technical commissioning of Access Control, CCTV, and Intercom solutions across construction sites, tenancy fit‑outs, and large‑scale customer environments.

You’ll work across installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and handover phases—ensuring every system operates reliably, safely, and in line with customer specifications. You may also be involved during the Defects Liability Period (DLP), supporting smooth project completion.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Install, engineer, commission, and maintain security systems including access control, CCTV, and related technologies.

  • Provide expert solutions to complex technical issues—troubleshooting or guiding others as required.

  • Collaborate closely with Project Managers and Engineers on project execution and customer specifications.

  • Assist with planning and scheduling project activities.

  • Maintain strong technical proficiency through continuous self-learning.

  • Support engineering and sales with technical insights and recommendations.

  • Contribute to process improvements and quality enhancements across operations.

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and training to junior technicians and apprentices.

  • Identify, report, and mitigate hazards to maintain a safe and compliant work environment.

  • Ensure 100% compliance with Johnson Controls’ Safety Health & Environment Management System (SHEMS).

What We’re Looking For

  • 2–6 years of experience as a Technician working with security systems.

  • Trade qualification in Security Systems.

  • Ability to hold or obtain a NSW Security Provider Licence.

  • Strong experience in commissioning, configuring, and troubleshooting security solutions.

  • Solid understanding of IT networks, server configuration, and system integration.

  • Ability to design and implement small to medium-sized security systems.

  • Proficiency in reading schematics and preparing technical reports.

  • Strong communication skills in English (verbal and written).

  • Willingness to travel as required.

Applicants must have full working rights in Australia.

Pre-employment screening—including medical, criminal history, reference checks, and drug & alcohol testing—is required for this role.
