The Role
Working within the Legal Services and CCT Registry Unit, Corporate Services Division you will be involved in providing legal advice and services to the Department of Local Government, Water and Volunteers. As a Senior Lawyer, you will deliver practical legal solutions to the Minister, Director-General and officers across the department. Working with limited supervision, you will apply sound judgement to complex matters, build productive relationships and help strengthen the team's legal capability, systems and services.
Key Accountabilities:
Provide quality and timely oral and written legal advice across the department.
Advise on statutory functions and powers, public law, commercial law, contracts, property law or litigation, with specific expertise in at least one area.
Draft contracts, property documents, legal advice, and instructions.
Manage complex litigation with Crown Law and external legal service providers.
Appear as an advocate or instructing solicitor in compliance and statutory appeal matters, where required.
Respond effectively to urgent, complex and non-routine legal matters.
Build productive internal and external professional networks.
Support staff development, training and improvements to systems and procedures.
