Join our surgical team as an ENT Service Registrar and make a significant impact on the lives of patients with conditions specific to the Ear, Nose and Throat.
About the role:
Reporting to the Head of Unit - ENT, this role is responsible for for the provision of high quality care to patients while working in wards and other areas such as theatres, emergency department and clinic outpatients.
Duties for the role will include:
Overall care and supervision of the delivery of that care to patients under the care of the Department or referred to the Department (in particular ensuring timely review and management of patients referred by the Emergency Department).
Perform surgical procedures on a minimum of 100 patients drawn from the ENT waiting list, utilising underutilised theatre capacity at Flinders Medical Centre and Noarlunga.
Deliver laryngology, general ENT, sinus, and postoperative clinic services with consultant support available but operating with a high degree of clinical autonomy.
To ensure that appropriate management is undertaken of patients in the Emergency Department and Outpatients.
General administration of the ward procedures relating to medical care, ensuring adequate documentation in the case notes, discharge summaries and follow up appointments
In association with Consultants and other Unit Registrars, supervise the resident staff and students on a day-to-day basis ensuring ready availability to provide advice and guidance. In doing this the Registrar will ensure that the RMO, students and interns are clearly aware of their tasks.
Participate in educational activities as required.
Contributing to the development of an integrated team approach and culture which is highly responsive to the needs of our consumers.
About you:
Bachelor of Medicine; Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent.
Registerable with the Medical Board of Australia as a Medical Practitioner.
Successfully completed the General Science Surgical Exam (GSSE).
Demonstrated high standards of clinical practice in the relevant specialty.
Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people including colleagues and other professional staff, proficient in written and spoken English.
A commitment to providing a quality service to patients and their families.
Appropriate time management skills/punctuality.
High level skills in problem solving and decision making.
Be able to operate on patients in an autonomous capacity at a level equivalent to a senior registrar at a competent grade and nearing completion of their specialist training.
Contribute to teaching and training of medical, nursing, allied health and other relevant staff at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
Contribute actively to the ongoing improvement of the hospital’s care delivery systems.
A candidate with Specialist registration in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery is preferable.

As per the SMOEA 2022, the total term of employment with SA Health will be 3 years. Rotations following the initial 12-month allocation as Advanced Trainee will be determined in line with your training and SA Health’s requirements. This may include transfer to other SA Health locations to perform work appropriate to classification, skills, and capabilities.
