Full job description
- Join a premier 11,700-acre Merino enterprise in a pivotal management-track role.
- Drive high-performance production using exceptional genetics and ASBVs.
- Grow into total management within a dedicated family agribusiness.
The Story
This is a significant opportunity to join a large-scale, high-performing Merino operation in Victoria. Spanning 11,700 acres, the property manages around 15,000 to 16,000 ewes, utilising a sophisticated genetic strategy for highly productive commercial sheep. The multigenerational family business seeks a dedicated, low-stress professional who values long-term commitment and can positively influence the team. The goal is for a passionate, conscientious manager to grow into a leadership position after gaining the family's trust and mentorship over one to two years. This role is ideal for a calm, solution-focused individual ready to take a patient step into autonomy within a business that views this as a long-term career path.
The Operation
The property is a high-volume livestock enterprise that prioritises competitive advantage through precision breeding and lifetime ewe management. The flock consists of a self-replacing Merino base with a focus on high lambing percentages, split between Merino, White Suffolk, and Border Leicester rams. We are seeking a manager who takes extreme pride in maintaining a neat and tidy operation, where machinery and infrastructure are cared for with the same diligence as the livestock. Management is moving toward full integration of AgriWebb to track all stock movements and health treatments, and a key focus for the incoming manager will be taking calm, methodical ownership of these digital records. The agronomy program is dedicated to pasture renovation and grazing production, requiring a manager with a proactive, foresight-driven approach to growing high-quality grass.
The Role
Reporting directly to the owners, you will be a key driver of the property's daily productivity as you work toward full operational management, balancing high standards with a relaxed, non-stressed personality. You will oversee all on-farm activities, primarily focused on elite livestock excellence and animal husbandry, including drenching, vaccinating, and recording condition scores. This is a hands-on role involving constant stock movement for processing, crutching, marking, and shearing, requiring a person who remains composed and focused during busy periods. You will take full responsibility for AgriWebb data entry and performance tracking, ensuring the business continues to meet its high production targets without compromising meticulous detail. While livestock is the priority, you will also lead the property's agronomy efforts, including broadacre boom spraying, and maintain a high standard of cleanliness across all farm facilities and vehicles. If you have not already completed it, you will have the opportunity to participate in a local Lifetime Ewe Management course alongside the owner to further refine your skills in this specific environment.
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking a low-stress, conscientious individual who can provide a calm balance to a fast-paced work environment while demonstrating extreme pride in animal health and machinery maintenance.
Desirable attributes include:
- Possession of an Australian Chemical Users Permit (ACUP) or the willingness to obtain one.
- A Medium Rigid (MR) or Heavy Rigid (HR) truck license, or the willingness to obtain one.
- Experience in operating Ag machinery and a genuine interest in agronomy and pasture production.
- A team of capable and well-controlled working dogs.
- Proficiency in, or a positive attitude toward, AgriWebb and other agricultural technologies.
- Previous completion of, or interest in, the Lifetime Ewe Management course.
- A manager who values a steady, organic progression of responsibility over 1-2 years to build long-term trust and autonomy.
This role offers a competitive remuneration package and the chance to grow with a premier Victorian family agribusiness during an exciting phase of development. You will be provided with a comfortable, recently refurbished three-bedroom family home featuring new paint and carpet, as well as beautiful views across the property. A work ute is supplied for on-farm use, and the property's location near the historic community of Maldon provides a vibrant country lifestyle within two hours of Melbourne. Due to the excellent proximity to local amenities, including primary and secondary school bus routes to Maldon and Bendigo, young families are highly encouraged to apply. Engaging the right person will allow the owners to take a well-deserved step back, eventually empowering you to hire and mentor junior staff under your wing.
Interested?
To apply for this role, please submit your current resume along with the contact details of at least three references. A cover letter highlighting your experience in large-scale sheep operations and your proficiency in utilising technology for livestock data collection will be highly regarded.
