Wollongong Hospital is the Illawarra and Shoalhaven’s major referral and teaching hospital and has a bed base of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient and community-based services.

What you'll be doing

To deliver safe, competent anaesthesia under appropriate supervision, for patients ranging from young children to elderly patients with significant pre-existing comorbidities. This includes patients who are critically ill or have suffered major trauma, and a broad range of surgical specialties including Plastics & Maxillofacial; Cardiothoracic Surgery; General (Colorectal, Upper GI, Head and Neck); ENT; Obstetrics and Gynaecology; Orthopaedic; Paediatric; Urology; Vascular; and Neurosurgery.

The Trainee will provide Anaesthetic Services to patients of the Illawarra and Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) while developing experience and expertise in Anaesthetic practice in a complex clinical environment, under the supervision of Anaesthetic Specialists as appointed by ISLHD.

Applicants must register or be registered as an ANZCA Trainee. This hospital is accredited for four ( years of training.

Successful applicants to the role must provide certified documentation of vaccination history and pathology as part of their recruitment documentation. Selection Criteria:
  • MBBS or equivalent, current general registration with the Medical Board of Australia
  • At least two (
  • years post graduate experience
  • Eligible for registration with the Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists as a trainee for the Diploma of Fellowship
  • Demonstrated commitment to relevant Advanced Training Program
  • Sufficient skills, knowledge and experience to practice as a safe and competent anaesthetic trainee
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
  • Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills
  • Moderate computer skills
