About the Department of Education:
Working for the Queensland Department of Education means joining an organisation that values its people and promotes leadership and innovation. Be part of an environment that respects professionalism and diversity, offers training and development opportunities and embraces flexible careers and work-life balance. Find out more about working with us.
Your Role:
The Family Support Coordinator (FSC) will work across three Early Years Learning Hub schools to support children and their families during the critical early years of schooling.
The Early Years Learning Hub initiative provides targeted early intervention for Prep to Year 2 students who require additional support to successfully engage in learning, develop social-emotional skills and build positive connections with school. Working alongside school staff, families and specialist services, the FSC will play a key role in strengthening family engagement, supporting transitions and coordinating access to services that address barriers to learning.
As the Family Support Coordinator, you will assist schools to support children and their families to successfully transition into and engage with school. You will facilitate access to learning and engagement supports, help establish positive patterns of attendance and participation, and connect families with government and non-government services to improve outcomes for children
Responsibilities include:
Build and sustain positive relationships with children, families, carers, school staff, government agencies and community organisations.
Support vulnerable children and families to successfully engage with school, learning and wellbeing outcomes.
Facilitate family-led planning and decision-making processes that promote positive outcomes for children.
Work collaboratively with teachers, teacher aides, wellbeing staff and specialist support services to identify and respond to student needs.
Connect families with appropriate health, therapeutic, developmental and community services.
Support children transitioning into school and through the early years of learning.
Build family capacity and work collaboratively with schools to respond to the complex needs of children and families.
Maintain accurate records and use data to monitor outcomes and inform practice.
Contribute to a collaborative multidisciplinary approach across the three Early Years Learning Hub schools.
We are looking for someone who:
Is passionate about improving outcomes for children and families in the early years.
Has experience working with vulnerable children and families and an understanding of child development, family-centred practice and early intervention approaches.
Demonstrates strong relationship-building, communication and collaboration skills.
Can navigate complex service systems and facilitate effective referrals and partnerships.
Can work independently across multiple school sites while contributing to a broader multidisciplinary team.
Experience working in a culturally responsive manner with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and communities is highly regarded.
Knowledge of local community services, family support programs and early childhood services is also highly regarded.
Submit Your Application:
Attach a brief resume including contact details for 2 referees (referees should have an understanding of your relevant work history)
Attach a 1-page written statement about how your achievements and capabilities meet the requirements of the role.
We welcome all applicants to share any support needed to ensure our recruitment process is inclusive.
Applications remain current for 12 months from the closing date and may be considered for appointment to identical or similar vacancies within the Department.
Applications from recruitment agencies will not be accepted.<space>This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 Australia License.
