Full job description

We are looking for a Station Hand to join the crew at Glentana Station. Glentana is situated 100km west of Springsure in the Buckland Plateau area. It has undergone an extensive program of development, pasture sowing, water storage and fencing of formerly Brigalow timbered land on fertile soils.

Who we are:

The Australian Agricultural Company (AACo) is Australia’s largest integrated cattle and beef producer, specialising in grass-fed, grain-fed, and Wagyu beef production. Established back in 1824, we’ve been doing this a while – in fact, we’re Australia’s oldest continuously operating company. We’ve had plenty of time to figure out how to be the best workplace we can be, with all the support, training, and opportunity you need to shape your career how you want to. We’re dedicated to acknowledging our history even as we look to sustainably feed the future – and we’d love you to join us.

As the Station Hand you will play an important role in the livestock program, helping with tasks like mustering and processing cattle, monitoring pastures, environmental management, operating and maintaining machinery, and carrying out general station duties and repairs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Complete tasks in a planned and organised way, ensuring materials and equipment are ready before starting work
  • Carry out cattle husbandry duties – including mustering on horseback, drafting, processing, weaning, and trucking cattle.
  • Handle, ride, shoe, feed and care for horses, always meeting AACo’s animal welfare and WHS standards
  • Operate machinery safely and within licence limits
  • Ride and muster using a two-wheeler motorbike or UTV, maintaining both safely
  • Assist with station maintenance and repairs – including fences, yards, water systems, roads, and quarters
  • Keep personal gear and equipment in good working condition
  • Pitch in with domestic duties such as butchering and camp cooking when needed

Skills & Experience:

  • Solid cattle handling experience
  • Current driver’s licence
  • Confident in completing all day-to-day station hand tasks
  • Able to work independently or as part of a team
  • Great communicator
  • Good at prioritising and staying calm under pressure
  • Practical and level-headed approach to solving problems

Employee Benefits:

  • Competitive pay and allowances
  • Service recognition and discounts with preferred suppliers
  • Ongoing training and development – both on the job and through external providers
  • Wi-Fi access, air-conditioned accommodation, and meals provided
