Full job description

Childcare Photographer (Personality > Camera)

We don't need the best photographer in Melbourne. We need someone who can walk into a room full of toddlers at 8:00am and have them laughing and trusting them within five minutes.

We're looking for charismatic, bubbly, high-energy humans. Think clown energy (the good kind). You'll spend your days winning over toddlers, adapting to chaos, making people laugh, and helping create great photos.

The Reality of the Job This is a high-energy, fast-moving environment. Some days you'll photograph children non-stop. Some will be shy. Some will be crying. Some will be running laps around the room. You'll receive direct feedback on the fly, adapt to changing situations, and very often have to laugh at yourself. Every day some kid will make you genuinely laugh.

Your job is to stay positive, keep the energy high, and find a genuine smile anyway. If that sounds exhausting rather than exciting, this probably isn't your role.

The Rules (Non-Negotiable)

  • You MUST have your own reliable vehicle.
  • You must genuinely enjoy working with children aged 0–5.
  • You must hold (or be willing to obtain) a Victorian Working With Children Check (WWCC).
  • You must be confident operating a DSLR camera (understanding exposure, focus, and shooting in manual—not just knowing where the 'on' button is).

The Photography Part Already a photographer? Great. Got solid DSLR fundamentals but still learning? That's fine too. We provide the camera systems, training, and hands-on support.

You'll learn professional flash photography, including multi-light setups, posing, workflow, and high-volume portrait shooting. Most photographers never get the opportunity to photograph hundreds of subjects while learning advanced lighting techniques. Here, you'll be doing exactly that while getting paid.

Photography can be taught. The ability to connect with children cannot.

How It Works You'll start as an Assistant. If you've got the magic touch with the kids and the attitude we're looking for, you'll move up to Photographer. Sometimes quickly.

The Job

  • Casual contract with near full-time hours during peak season.
  • Monday–Thursday (sometimes Friday). Minimum 3 days per week.
  • Approximately 7:45am–3:00pm.
  • Different childcare centres each week within 20km of Melbourne CBD.
  • Upload images from home after each shoot (no editing required).
  • We pay a guaranteed additional 1.5 hours for uploads every day, even if it takes significantly less time.

The Good Stuff

  • $31.90–$47.00 per hour + Super.
  • Work until mid-December → January off → Return end of February.
  • Fun, high-energy team.
  • Clear expectations and direct feedback.

If you're positive, reliable, and not afraid to look a little ridiculous for a genuine smile, apply now.
