The Data Protection / is responsible for defining, delivering, and governing enterprise storage and backup services for our clients. The role provides strategic ownership, client engagement, and outcome accountability for the Storage & Backup tower while working in close partnership with offshore Tower Managers, who manage day‑to‑day operations and team management.

Main responsibilities

  • Product Leadership
    • Own the end‑to‑end product vision, roadmap, and lifecycle for Storage & Data Protection / Backup services.
    • Define standards, architecture, performance, and service models aligned to customer requirements.
    • Defines SLOs (Service Level Objectives) and use monitoring tools to track capacity and performance trends.
    • Own the service catalog, including service tiers (e.g., Gold/Silver/Bronze) and standardizing request patterns for internal or external customers.
    • Establish data protection standards, including encryption, immutability, and alignment with corporate RTO/RPO (Recovery Time Objective/Point Objective) targets.
    • Establish and monitor KPI’s to measure service performance including Backup Success Rate, Restore Success Rate, RPO/RTO adherence, Storage Capacity Growth
    • Maintain a regular testing process to ensure ongoing compliance with KPI’s
    • Drive innovation across hybrid cloud, automation, resilience, and optimisation.
    • Remain accountable for overall tower outcomes and service performance and maturity.
    • Oversee vendor evaluations to optimize the total cost of ownership (TCO) for storage assets.
  • Client Engagement
    • Act as the primary onshore interface to our clients for Storage & Backup.
    • Translate business and regulatory requirements into product and service outcomes.
    • Provide regular reporting, insights, and forward‑looking recommendations.
    • Ensure services meet agreed contractual commitments and KPIs.
  • Coordination with Offshore Teams
    • Partner closely with offshore Tower leaders to deliver Storage & Backup services.
    • Establish and monitor offshore support Tower team performance metrics and SLA’s
      • Initial Response Time: How quickly the team acknowledges a new ticket. Set and measure target for high-priority storage issues.
      • Mean Time to Resolution (MTTR): The average time taken to fully resolve an incident from the moment it is reported.
      • First Contact Resolution (FCR): The percentage of issues resolved during the first interaction, which reduces "ping-ponging" between time zones.
      • SLA Compliance Rate: The overall percentage of tasks or incidents resolved within the contractually agreed-upon timeframes.
    • Provide direction, priorities, and accountability on what needs to be delivered.
    • Ensure offshore execution aligns with agreed product strategy, standards, and KPIs.
    • Maintain clear role boundaries, avoiding duplication of operational responsibilities.
  • Operational Governance & Assurance
    • Act as escalation point for incidents, risks, tasks, and minor works.
    • Review service performance and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
    • Ensure compliance with all regulations, security frameworks and governance.
    • Act as escalation point for incidents, tasks, and minor works related to storage and backup.
    • Manage vendor relationships.
  • Leadership & Collaboration
    • Mentor engineers and foster a culture of accountability and innovation.
    • Work closely with SDMs, Ops Heads, and other technology towers to deliver integrated solutions.
    • Ensure clear role boundaries with Tower Managers to avoid duplication of responsibilities.

Desired knowledge

  • Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
  • 7+ years’ experience in enterprise storage, data protection and backup
  • Proven experience operating in complex, multi‑vendor, regulated environments.
  • Demonstrated success working with offshore delivery models without direct reporting lines.
  • Industry or vendor-specific credentials from NetApp, Dell, or AWS
  • Strong client‑facing and executive stakeholder engagement experience

Desired skills

  • Expertise in SAN/NAS architectures (e.g., NetApp, Dell/EMC – PowerStore, PowerProtect, PowerEdge, PowerScale) and fabric management.
  • Deep knowledge of backup software and recovery strategies like the 3-2-1 rule.
  • Backup, recovery, and resilience: snapshotting, replication, DR.
  • Familiarity with cloud storage (AWS S3, Azure Disk), Kubernetes persistent storage, and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) like Terraform.
  • Automation, orchestration, and monitoring tools.
  • Understanding of compliance environments (ISO standards, privacy and data protection).
  • Strong ownership mindset with clear accountability for outcomes.
  • Confident working across cultures and geographies.
  • Able to influence without authority and manage ambiguity.
