So many lives. So many ways. One you.

50,000 lives and counting.

That’s how many South Australians our people support each year.

As one of the state’s leading not-for-profits, we’re making a meaningful impact at scale. From foster care to aged care and everything in between, our services are as diverse as the people and communities we serve - and we’re growing our reach for the future.

It takes a special kind of person to work in this sector. Someone with real compassion and care. Could that person be you?

Join us as an Assessment Worker, and be part of something bigger.

What you’ll do

Help shape the future of children and young people by finding and supporting the right foster families.

As an Assessment Worker, you'll use your professional judgement to assess, educate and support prospective foster carers through the approval process. Rather than providing ongoing case management, you'll focus on conducting in-depth assessments that help determine whether families are ready to provide safe, nurturing and trauma informed care.

This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced practitioner who enjoys building relationships, asking meaningful questions, writing high quality assessments and making recommendations that have a lasting impact on children's lives.

Working as part of our Foster Care team, you'll collaborate with internal specialists and engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) families to ensure culturally safe and inclusive practice.

This is a full-time, ongoing position based at our Head Office in Hindmarsh, with travel across metropolitan Adelaide.

You’ll be trusted to make a valuable impact by:

  • Conducting competency-based assessments using approved tools to evaluate foster care applicants
  • Supporting families to understand and navigate the assessment process with empathy & clarity
  • Ensuring cultural safety and responsiveness in all interactions
  • Collaborating with specialists to ensure best outcomes for children and young people
  • Recommending applications for approval or non-approval based on thorough, trauma-informed evaluations

What you’ll bring

To thrive in this role, you will have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Community Services or a related discipline.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Child Protection sector, including relevant legislation and compliance frameworks & exceptional writing skills
  • Demonstrated experience conducting competency-based assessments

We would also love you to have:

  • ACWA Step by Step Accreditation or the ability to meet accreditation requirements
